    Hi,
I have a HP M7775 uk-a and this morning it would not turn on.
I checked the lead and thats working fine, I have the little LCD light on the back come on, but that's it.
I took it to a computer store who did a power supply test and I was told that power is getting in ok and that they think it's the motherboard that has gone.
    PC details below:

    Base processor
    Core 2 Duo E6600 (C) DC 2.4 GHz
    •1066 MHz front side bus
    •Socket 775
    Chipset
    Intel 945G
    Motherboard
    •Manufacturer: Asus
    •Motherboard Name: P5LP-LE
    •HP/Compaq motherboard name: Leonite-GL8E

Can anyone think of anything else it could be or if you think it is the motherboad can anyone tell me another good motherboard I can buy to replace it and will it just be the motherboard I have to replace....

Please help as need my PC back...

    Thank you
    :cry

Sorry to say but your local pc shop is probably right.
I just had a look for a replacement mobo and that model is pretty hard to find which is going to be a pain.

I could be wrong , it's pretty hard to diagnose an issue like this over the net.
It could be a few things like CPU is dead but more likely mobo.
If I were you I'd buy a new mobo/cpu combo.

Sorry I can't give you an easy solution, someone else here may think of something I didn't.

Edit: You have tried checking all connectors and even trying a different PSU may solve the problem, I have seen mobo's light up but not power up due to psu. But if your local store said psu is fine then....well, you get the picture. How good is your local store?

    Hi, Thanks for your reply.

The computer store are ok, Ive gone there before a year or so ago.

If it is the Motherboard and I did replace it along with CPU.

What do you think is good to get and would I be albe to keep all the other parts in my PC as the HP i have comes with a pull out MMD, which I use all the time.

Or is it best just to buy another PC, which I dont really want to do if I can help it, but will if I have to...

Well if all else fails ( Sach's idea is definitely worth a try, I thought of the ram idea but forgot to say lol) and you do end up needing new parts, chances are you will need new mobo/cpu and possibly ram depending on what mobo you choose. Your HDD's and Optical drives are fine to reuse as is sound card, if you have a video card then it should be fine providing the new mobo has the correct slot ie: PCI-e or AGP depending on what card you have.
It also depends what you use it for, it's often only a little more expensive to buy a prebuild and then you can use drives in new machine as extra's.
This is also dependant on your knowledge of building pc and installing windows.

I'd still be inclined to try a different PSU, I dunno just the way I work but I try to eliminate the cheapest fix first lol

But you have to think about:

    How much you can afford.
If you are capable of building a pc
If you are capable of installing windows and retreiving your files from old HDD.

None of it is exceptionally difficult but it scares a lot of people and if you are that unsure then it's a bad idea to try.

The easiest solution would be to find a mobo the same as the one you have, but like I said, I had a quick look and nowhere listed them for sale. Deep searching could turn one up though. Ebay maybe. Preferably New and not used.

I agree with Nedlamar about trying a different PSU. For some reason it just would bother me to think my MB could just stop working for no apparent reason.

I don't have any other things to try except removing the battery and booting without it. Then putting it back and booting. Probably make no difference but this sort of thing would drive me nuts to believe A PC can just die with no warning.

I'll leave to others to recommend replacements for the board because I've never replaced one.

    Hi,

I have another PC also HP just a older model, it's very slow so I dont use it alot, maybe I could take the one out of that one and try.

I know what you mean about it just going, I was only on it last night and turned it off like I always do, then dead this morning.

Anyway I'll give it i go, I've never done it before, have u any tips on doing it, or is it just a case of un-doing the bits and power leads?

    Thanks

Well just look at the connections of the newer pc and then the older one to make sure you have the correct connections. The biggest issue is the mainboard power connector being 20 pin on older models and 24 pin on newer.
Before you take stuff apart just check the older PSU has the correct connectors.

Once you establish that it does then proceed in swapping them out.

Turn off your pc and unplug it, it's always a good idea to hit the power switch after being unplugged to drain any stored power on the board.

Then just swap them out, all connectors can only go in 1 place and in 1 way so it's not too hard to figure out.

Once you hooked up the other PSU, fire her up and see what happens.
If she fires then you just saved yourself some money, although I wouldn't reccomend leaving the old one, I would buy a new one (PSU)

If it doesn't boot then it looks like you need a new mobo.

    Good luck. :)

Oh I guess I should have clarified in case.
You only need to remove and swap the power supply (PSU), don't dissconnect anything else.
There are (should be) 4 screws on the back of the case holding the PSU in place, it will be easier if you lay the pc on the side to avoid any accidental whacking of important mobo parts lol

Be gentle, be patient. Wiggle power connectors gently side to side to remove, don't just pull as hard as you can because your hand may slip and damage something else.
The HDD connectors will probably be quite tight but there's no clip, just tight.
There will be a clip on the 20/24 pin connector, 1 on the little 4 pin connector (if present) and clips on most pci/e/agp slots.
Like I said, just be gentle and patient. Having said that it's mostly common sense and it wont explode if you handle it a little heavy lol

Once you remove the PSU's, just reverse the process. Double check all connectors before you fire it up.
