I was looking at my directory structure, and found this odd-looking file folder with the same odd-looking text file inside of it. I found it right on my "C" directory and it is on my computer at this place:

    C:\9b3aa777461fb8630adab1dc\msxml4-KB927978-enu.txt

I opened it, and took a look and none of it makes any sense. Right after I bought my computer, I noticed that it would stall upon boot up. When I would boot up, windows would look like its loading, then pause for about 90 seconds before my desktop would start appearing. I dont know if this file is causing my windows to pause when loading or not. I thought I would ask the professionals here what this file folder is for and whether it is safe to 'right click' and 'delete' it.

    Anyone know?

Thank you in advance for any direction.

    Hi

Its an installer debug log from that MSXML4 update which likely came if you have done any MS updates of late, its a legitimate file, BUT not needed, simply its a log of how the install went and what it actually installed, these tend to be deleted on install but sometimes get left over. They are safe to delete.

Run MS updates again on your PC, and also look to see in ADD/REMOVE ( may need to tick show Updates ) if that KB927978 is installed or not, if it is then it sucessfully installed with Windows Update the 1st time, but generated the log anyway... if it is not in Add/Remove then manually download and install from the link above that plodr linked to.

Hello. I went to my windows update and went through the task. It gave me something because it dowloaded some sort of update(s) to my computer and then said that it was complete. I went to my control panel to get to the ADD/REMOVE area. I have discovered these two things but dont know when I got them or how long I've had them for:

Do I need both of them? Does having two of them slow my boot up before windows loads?

    Thank you.

Hi yes you need both as they are updates to MSXML4 with differeent version codes, I have 4 of them and they do not slow your boot up times, other items will be doing this, just depends what you have running at startup.

If you have CCLeaner and click Tools > Startup you can see what is starting with your PC, some of the items here are not needed and will slow you PC down BUT you have to be careful what to remove, if you wish to post a screenshot of the CCleaner Startup page, I/WE will advise you what can be removed from startup, BUT MSXML4 is not an issue.

    Hello Halo:

Thank you for your information. I will leave well enough where it is. But my computer does take far too many seconds to load my desktop. It boots up fine, I see the blue screen, I see the windows logo with the little scroll animation, then I get my desktop wall paper, and everything pauses for just about a minute before the icons start dropping onto my desktop. During this pause, my harddrive light isn't on either. Its like God said for it to be quiet for 60 seconds, and there it sits. Anyway, I followed your instructions and have captured my screen. See below:

    Thank you.

I wonder if my speed would pick up during boot-up if I removed or deleted the HP Boot Optimizer? Should I maybe try that?

    Hello Mystique

You can easily loose the following from the startup list but yours is pretty good anyway.

    NvCplDaemon
    nwiz

as these two are Nvidia driver helpers which really dont help much but use up PC memory.

Weather Eye is likley something you use but this is user preference as this is a non needed startup... so only delete if you dont want it at bootup time.

Recguard, is HPs way of stopping you from deleting the restore partition accidently, so leave this be.

HPBootOp yes can be removed as its a non needed app.

There is always a small lag with the boot screen finally giving you control, likely in most cases to the AntiVirus, just checking its updates, but your PC seems as if its quick to boot.

    Hi Hola:

I removed the HP Boot Op before you posted. I rebooted and didn't notice any change. If there was a change, it was so minute, I missed it.

I like the weather eye as I have two areas I like to monitor as I never know when I want to fly out of this rainforest and head south. I will leave it as it doesn't really pose a threat or a signifant amount of slow down.

The others you spoke about also dont sound like they pose much of a threat or thorn. I usually reboot 5 or 6 times a day because of my animation program designing and page building anyway, but I just thought if there were things I didn't need, I'd boot them.

Thanks for all the info and direction. I really appreciate it. I am truly thankful to know that my system is pretty much clean and quick to boot.

    Thanks again.
