    Hello world,

I am required to update staffs MS office 2000 to office 2003, can i copy the users .pst, .dic and autocorrect options and replace the files in office 2003 or is there an easier method?

I have to transfer the office 2000 users files / settings to a new clean updated install of office 2003 pro on a differnet / newer p.c.

The operating system these are to be transfered too is different being XP Pro sp3 - from a couple of exisisting Xp home SP2 and several win 2000 pro sp4.
I need to do this for these particular apps / files all are from office 2000 - Word, Excel and Outlook files to Office 2003.

I had a look at ms office site but like most ms stuff, I find its overly complicated with too much junk on screen, and couldnt find a way to sign up easily, and when i did it said i wasnt signed up even though at the top its said signed in..and the page hadnt been up long enough to expire... had a couple of searches but i got frustrated with the site. So put a post here instead.

Really appreciate the assist with this query. :confused

Thanks in advance for appropriate links, info etc.

    o.k update..

I have found that i can use the files and settings transfer wizard for the Xp home units, as most of these are already office 2003.

The one issue that remains is upgrading the O/S Win 2000 Pro SP4 units, which are using the Office 2000 Pro these settings need to be used with Xp PRO and with Office 2003.

    1) I still need to transfer the user settings for, outlook 2000 - this means address book contacts and emails..pst files to office 2003. Can I successfully use the import / export feature for the personal folders between these versions of office 2000 / 2003?

    2) I need to do the same for Office 2000 Word files in particular, the autocorrect, dic and custom.dic files Can these be transfered - the method would be great.

    3) Any of the other 2000 office apps along the way. Such applications as Publisher settings, powerpoint settings everything etc..

    4) Also is there a file and settings transfer wizard equivalent in Windows 2000 pro?

Thanks again in advance for taking the time to read this and for any info.

Re: Outlook, yes, I would export to .pst. I believe the general rule you can apply is that you can export/import .pst from lower versions of Office to higher versions, but not vice versa. But, I would also export your Outlook stuff to CSV, as a backup in case the import of .pst into Outlook 2003 does not work.

Re: Word's .dic, this reference may help, although it discusses Word 2003 and Word 2007: Transfer or Move Your Microsoft Office Custom Dictionary. To find it, I did a Google search on transfer .dic file. You may want to do your own search.
