    Hi and welcome

could you post a pic of the Memory tab of Resource Monitor and crop it so its a bigger pic to view (above two are hard to read)?
Just thinking as from the pics 8GB is listed that 4GB is already committed to the system, and 4GB is free, which is normal, you never going to see all 8GB free.

    Hi

That all looks normal for an 8GB Ram and Windows 7, 8.1 and 10, basically windows is holding in reserve near 4GB, its using 4GB to run Windows and your apps, the 4GB of Ram on the graphics card does not add to your system ram, but looks as if Windows is hardware reserving 301mb to aid the card and any other hardware device if needed.

All in all your system looks ok in ram usage, and the old adage is unused ram is wasted ram, its better for the speed of your PC that Windows uses ram over a cache file as in the swapfile as paging data to a HDD is much slower than paging data from ram.

Things you can do to free up ram if you want is slim down the apps you having starting with Windows as they all eat up ram and most may not be needed.

    ok thnks!.
that actually brings me to another question.
i dont know if i should make a new thread for it or not though.
basically, ive only used an old computer up till now, with no extra features, so ive always kept my startup items down to very little, but with this new computer i dont know which of the startup items are nescesary for best computer performance.
in other words, there all these programs like:

INTEL RAPID STORAGE TECHNOLOGY (will the computer actually run slower if this doesnt turn on on startup)
INTEL HD GRAPHICS (will the graphics not be to their full potential if this doesnt turn on on startup?)
DELL TOUCHPAD (will the touchpad and multi gesture features not work correctly if this doesnt go on on startup)?
DELL AUDIO (it has maxx audio speaker enhancment settings) will the speaker enhancment not go on if this doesnt go at startup?

so with all these things, will they not turn on if i disable them at startup, or will thye be on always?

if i should make a seperate topic for this, let me know.

    Hi

Nah can go through your info in this thread.

Intel Rapid Storage, No should not do and I dont have mine at startup, its more a control panel to the driver
Intel HD Graphics, Can disable or delete this from startup as its just a quick link to the drivers control panel
Dell Touchpad, I would always leave a touchpad driver control panel alone,
Dell Audio, Can disable as its a link to the control panel for audio

These items you will see in the Start menu lists or in Control Panel or via in the case of Intel Graphics by right click your desktop.

The ram on your video card is not available as system memory; it is attached to the GPU for graphics usage. But; that PC uses hybrid video technology and will dynamically switch to the ATI video when the system thinks you are using a high demand video application.
Personally, I very much like Winpatrol for disabling startup items (right-click, disable in Winpatrol) and have used it for almost 15 years now. You can Google the Command entry for what it lists and know quickly whether you need it or not.

Hey, Davis, WinPatrol is only recommended way I've come across of modifying which itns are loaded at boot-up. Are there others ?

Often when I install a program it creates a start up entry and now my systems are full of junk that auto load when I boot up....

Yes, I have tried several different programs; WinPatrol is the best.

Autoruns gives the most control over startup entries, right-click menu items, etc.

Yes it does; but, it is far more difficult than WinPatrol if you make a mistake.
