    hi,
this just started a few days ago...i do not know too much about computers. i am having this error reporting message popping up very time my computer starts: this is the files it gave me:
    C:\DOCUME~1\MELISS~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERa8c3.dir00\svchost.exe.mdmp
    C:\DOCUME~1\MELISS~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERa8c3.dir00\appcompat.txt
when i click, send, dont send or debug the computer screen either locks up or loses color or the screen starts to look boxie ( if that is a word- not really sure how to describe it) sometimes the screen stays clear or i cannot click on things or links. on the blue start menu bar somtimes parts of it turn white.

i have tried to search for this file and it seems like it doesnt exist

i have updated all my virus scan (AVG) and now i am getting AVG error messages saying it cannot run

i have read many different post and tried all the:
    jotti
    VirusTotal
    virus.org
    Kaspersky
    viruschief
and they all say i am clean but obviously i am not. AVG said SHELL32 needed to be changes, but i have no clue what that means!!

i have ran some other things i have found on this site and i will attach what the reports are at the bottom of this - or at least i will try

i have also tried to delete programs i dont need or that somehow got down loaded but i have no clue what to get rid of or what to keep

    Please help
    Mel

    Hi

Maybe malware but maybe not, info you posted above suggest to me hardware device driver or software issue, could be wrong though so a full malware check is advisable.

What would the full error message text be that you get at boot, does it list a file name and some code? if so what as the files generated in your temp files in svchost.exe.mdmp & appcompat.txt are generally you have a driver or software issue.

    Please attach the appcompat.txt file.

Have you installed any new software before this happened or updates any drivers, if so what?

AVG will report that Shell32.dll and some other files (ntoskml.exe, user32.dll and Kernel32.dll ) have been "changed" this is very normal, especially after you likely have just done a Windows Update or some PC maintanence that may have changed the MBR. Only time to worry is if those files are said to be "infected" but i changed and this always shows on running AVG then you can tell AVG to accept the change by opening it, going to Test Center and pressing F3 and accepting the change if that doesnt work search for this file and delete AVG7QT.DAT

You may if the error message doesnt have any error codes and text to a faulting file, could go into Event Viewer and see what errors are around the time this happens, goto Control Panel > Aministrative Tools > Event Viewer and generally the messages will be in System or Software.. check and post the errors that would have been from the time of boot.

If you cannot get into checking the Event Viewer as a result of the errors, boot into Safe Mode and while this if it works without error will narrow the problem down abit to a device driver or software it will allow you to view the Event Logs.

Halo has already suggested this but I would try starting in safe mode and see what errors you get. Restart and hit F8 after the DELL screen. Do you have the screen problems in safe mode?

Also, I would look at your monitor settings. It looks like you have default monitor set, yet are using widescreen resolution. Look at the back of your monitor and get the model number. You can download a driver from DELL. I'm not sure default monitor driver can handle widescreen.

The error shows the files are in a TEMP folder so I don't think they are actually causing the problem.

Due to the description of the display issues, I'm thinking this is a video problem; either a bad driver or bad video card or bad video memory. It could also be be faulty system RAM. It's hard to say at this point without more details.
