Hi, I'm trying to sort out my friend's laptop which keeps blue screening. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to the crashes.

I've run Memtest for a few passes and it didn't report any errors.

Can anyone take a look at these minidumps and tell me what the problem might be? I'm on a budget so can't afford to replace components without being sure they are the cause of the problem.

    Many thanks in advance :)

I'm having a problem with Windows debugging tools. I've installed the symbols required, but it doesn't seem to be using them. I'm trying to read Vista minidumps on an XP machine. I've installed both sets of symbols (XP/Vista).

    Getting very frustrated :(

I know this is asking a lot, but is there any expert out there who could look over the dumps and identify the problems for me, please? Would be eternally grateful...

Thank you both baklogic & LauraR.

Apparently the causes of crash (in chronological order) are:
    ntkrnlpa.exe
    ntoskrnl.exe
    win32k.sys
    ntoskrnl.exe
    win32k.sys
    fltmgr.sys

This is a fresh install of Vista on a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop, with all drivers updated from the Dell website. It crashed within 2hrs of me reinstalling the OS, and is now crashing with every couple of hours of use.

I've tried searching for info relating to these, but the Microsoft knowledgebase is like double-Dutch to me on this, and other places on the internet say that these are all Windows files, but could possibly be other drivers hiding under Windows system address space or something?

If anyone is prepared to spend some time looking at the actual minidumps for me and can tell me exactly what is wrong then I will pay you! Just send me your Paypal address!

I cannot advise you on minidumps, myself, as that is not one of my capabilities, as yet- but others may come on , at any time.
I know it can be frustrating, but majorgeeks is a free 'channel' to run your problems through, and as far as I know, always will be.
I believe we all get a great feeling, if we solve your problems, and everyone I have ever seen trying to help here, finds that the best payment.
All I can offer is that some of the problems with Vista, and Windows 7 come from driver issues-
Typical driver issues that I have personally come across seem to involve --
Wireles cards (particularly older nvidia) Might be worth trying a PMCI card.
graphics drivers can give a lot of trouble. Sleep mode/hibernation on a laptop can cause these bsods, as it seems not all drivers account for that mode in the later operating systems, and as it hibernates, it will bsod as you try to work again.
I know you said that you got all the drivers from Dell, and they should be o.k- Unfortunately , it happens that sometimes the parts in the laptops are not up to the drivers that seem to be offered.
I would suggest that you look in the event viewer, and it will often point to the offender, or, allow you to click on it to send to microsoft to check out.
I would also suggest that you go to the compatability site of microsoft to check out for unsigned drivers, or, incompatability.
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/en-us/default.aspx
I had a similar bsod, when I tried to connect to a different router and the laptop just crashed- it did not like the wireless card I had!
Although it can be best to get the drivers from the manufacturers, it can be worth trying from the chip makers, or, individual component makers, when using Vista, and Windows 7.
I hope this will help , but more knowledgable 'dumpreaders ' may come on with additional, or, even better advice.
    Good luck.
