Help please. no sound at all

The sound on my computer has completely stopped working. Not sure what happened as I let my 5yr old play games unattended and the next time I went online (a week later) I noticed there was no sound. Realtek HD Audio Manager states that the Realtek Audio Output is working, the LineIn shows it's working, and the DigitalIn shows it's working. Nothing is muted.

I do not have separate speakers plugged in. I checked the audio cable and it's plugged in firmly at both ends.

Any suggestions?

is there any ? ? Also what is your Operating System ? :wave

 

You should also check under your services (type services.msc in the Run bar in XP; in Win 7 just type services in Search Programs and Files search bar). Scroll down the list and find Windows Audio. Make sure it is started and set to Automatic.

If it isn't in the list at all, or won't start, post back about it and we can go from there.

 

I did both things suggest by both you, Spad and you, Falcon Attack. Nothing changed. My computer asks for permission to continue when trying to run a program/complete an action, but that's the only question i get. Windows Audio is listed Spad, and it shows started and automatic.

Falconattack - I followed all the steps down to reseating the sound card - which I did not do as seems more technical than I'm comfortable with - and still nothing. No sound. Any other suggestions?

Still having sound issues..can someone pls help?

falconattack was assisting me, but I was sick and didn't respond immediately and it seems he has moved on. Can someone else help me? I still have no sound and not sure what to do next. I've attached the log...as falconattack had requested..to my last post.

I'm a bit at a loss . . . I'm sure you have already tried this, but did you attempt a system restore from before the problem started?

 

You can push Ok to permission until you are able to see this panel , is there any ? in there ? :wave

 

Spad - problem is that I don't know when exactly the problem began so I wouldn't know when to system restore back to. Around Christmastime I had a number of trojans and viruses that I came on this site for help with. The sound was working at that time and after my computer got cleaned up too. So I think this happened in eaerly-to-mid-January, but I'm not sure. I don't use my computer at home everyday.

Falconattack - I did what you said and yes, a box pops up saying "windows needs your permission to continue. If you started this action, continue".

Sigh..this is frustrating! I appreciate that you are trying to help me!
