thought I'd get a faster responce here.

    xp pro is my OS.

I can't seem to find my place to change this, also can't find my system area where I can observe my processes and speed graph and such.

Sorry, I haven't used this stuff for a while and forgot where it was, lol. Damn meds.

well, SOrry, I'm more talking like embedded web pages with sound, and for some reason when I play a clip it is quicktime, it used to be wmp but I accidently enabled quicktime to play sounds and video clips automataically, and I want it to go back to wmp.

open up your media player, click on tools --->options ----> file types and make sure the checkbox next to .wma is checked.

Well thanks everyone, I finally got it handled. had to go to reload wmp9 and that seemed to take care of it, actually, I just hit update codec's and for some reason that reloaded wmp9 and then it worked :D

Thanks for the help MrPewty and Flip,

For future reference, or for lurkers who want to know, here is the correct way (well, one of them) to change which programs run what.

Find a file of the type you want the program to open. In this case, a random .wma file. Hold down the <SHIFT> key, and right-click the file. On the context menu that opens, you should now have an "Open with..." option. Select that.

After an aggrivating amoount of time, a dialog window opens and lets you give it input. It will be a list of programs installed on your machine. Scroll the list and select the program you want to access the file with. Next, and this is where we actually change which program opens the file, make sure the "Always use this program to open this type of file" option is checked. Then click "OK". If the program you want is not listed on this scrolling menu, then you have to "Browse..." to the currect executable file instead of picking it from the list.

A second way to do this is to open up Windows Explorer (a.k.a., My Computer). Go Tools/Foler Options.../File Types. Again, you get to wait an aggrivating amount of time. You get a big list of extensions and programs that are assigned to run them. You can add, delete and edit those associations here. Personally I find the aforementioned method easier than this one.

    Howdy!
just a quick question that needs no answer:

Why would anyone want to use WimpyMediumPlayer instead anything else?

WimpyMedia files are poor quality and they don't play well.

    :-}

It's free, installs autmatically, and downloads codecs itself when you need them (except for early DivX).

Software doesn't have to be good. It just has to be good enough.

and I would have to disagree with the file types. WMA can have decent sound at a substantial size difference, handy for people like me that use a PDA for an MP3 player.

WMP9 video is actually quite good at a low bit rate, I imagine that it borrows some things fom divx.
