Help please with war3 not detecting cd in cd-rom?

basicly my problem is i can put in the cd and the autorun will work and the game start menu thing will come up, but when i click "Play WarcraftII: Th Forzen Throne" i get a sys msg saying

CD-ROM Drive ERROR

'Please verify that yopur Frozen throne disk is in your CD-ROM drive, then click on 'Retry'

the disk is in there and it is in perfect condition so no read error or anything

i think the problem is beacause yesterday i installed a slave hardrive and a printer that has digital camera slots so the comp reads it as a removable drive

what this did was change my CD-ROM drive all the way from D: drive to F: drive and thats where i think the problem is, the game is checking for the disk in drive E: (the removable drive) i installed the slave drive and then played war3 before installing the printer. the CD-ROm drive was E: then and it worked also, but it stopped working after installing the printer and CD-ROM chanign to F: drive


and yes i have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, twice now in fact

 

your cd rom drive might be dirty, try cleaning it.

 

IF you have more then one cdrom/dvd etc...blizz games have a tough time seperating one from the other; try setting one on PIO mode.

 

how do i do that?


btw my cd-rom is clean it has no problem playing other cd's, i just installed Disciples II again and played it for a bit just to make sure it worked

I had a similar problem with WOW I kept getting the infernal 38 error message then tried the copy and paste that blizzard suggested but kept getting a cyclical redundancy check error which basically means that the disk/ maybe drive is either scratched damaged or dirty I bought a cdrom cleaner today and the game loaded just fine!!! :} even though this may be a lil different then wha tu are looking for it could be a similiar situation Last week I installed Rise of Nations and had no problem on the install

was on the phone with blzzard for 2 hours

then they sent me the same bs that we went over the phone with
the problem is with securrom
ut2004 has some problems with it so atari made a machine specific patch for it .so if you have a problem you give them proof that you own it then they send you a patch locked to your key.
i mentioned it to blizzard and they said they can't do that.
i tried it in the wifes machine and it works but not in mine and i did everything including format.they had me uninstall daemon and nero(freakin hell i can't play war3 with nero installed?????)
in the end they never got the game running
i am pissed at blizzard
i bought 2 copies for me and my nephew to play and wham wouldn't work
thats my rant
but you may have to keep buying new drives till one works
its the drive with securerom

drives dont carry securerom; games do.

 

i know that,but securerom and somes drives don't work well together.all it does is make me go and look for a crack for it.pisses me off that the copy protection won't let me play the game i bought
and my drive is one that the blizzard guy said was not a problem with war3.
they should make a machiune specific patch for the game for those who can prove they have a retail cpy.

i have the same problem with bunch of games; switching my cdrom to PIO mode fixes the problem its just that i dont remeber how to do it now a days
