Help Please

    I'm new and I hope i'm in the right spot.Here goes...My computer keeps "not responding" and I dont know what to do.I've reset IE and it seemed to work at first but now it's just gotten worst.Can anyone help.And I dont have any money to buy any programs.Plus I'm new with computers.So any help would be welcomed.

    Hi Melissa

    What version of Windows do you have? can depending on version click Start > Run and type winver or click Start and in the Start Search box type winver and hit enter and it will tell you your Windows version.

    When not responding is it just IE or other applications? if other applications please tell us which ones.

    What you could do is start Windows in Safe Mode, at boot tap F8 a few times and you will get a menu, at that menu click Safe Mode With Networking and see if everything is OK?

    Also if its IE then start IE in its No-Add ons mode and check that a browser addon or toolbar is not causing this to do this click Start > All Programs > Accessories > Systsem Tools and click Internet Explorer Non Add-ons and see if its ok?

    Do tell us what happens at each of those stages.

    Have you also checked for malware (virus and trojans etc) if not then do scan your PC and let us know i anything is found.

    Sorry I forgot to include that I have Windows XP 2000.Home edition.And It's just IE that's not responding.AT first It was just when I was on facebook games.Now it seems to be when i'm checking my mail or surfing.I dont do much on line.
    Before I asked for your help I ran a malware scan and had 3.Well I got rid of them.And ran it again and found nothing.Then I did what you said and that didnt help.But I did'nt do the Safe Mode one.How do you turn off in Safe Mode? And I'll try that next.I all so just used CCleaner and it seems to run a little bit faster,not much though.Because it's also runs much slower than it did.

    I'm such a dork..LOL..sorry.I know the Safe Mode:-o..But nothing happen.

    Does everything freeze or do you just see something like IE is not responding?

    Okay, you answered while I was asking...what version of IE are you running?

    To start safe mode, you click F8 at startup and can select safe mode. All the icons will be bigger - don't worry, it is because the video driver isn't loaded.
    You will see a start button, taskbar and everything else and you can click start and shut down or restart the same as if you were in normal mode.

    You may have to press F8 repeatedly until the startup menu appears.

    To have internet access, choose Safe Mode with Networking

    The new IE 8 and it just freezes.It doesnt show anything.And sometimes the page just goes white.

    I tried that and it wouldnt do anything.Or I didnt do it at the right time or something.But I turned it off in safe mode and when it came back on I pushed F8 repeated.What did I do wrong?

    It's just a matter of catching it at the exact moment. I had to do it at least 5 times once to get it to safe mode then another time I caught it the very first time(like that'll ever happen again.:p)
