help possible virus problem

Hi I'm a first time poster so go easy on me if i need to supply more information.

I have two computers (thank god because one of them has a virus or something that has it all tied up in knots)

This morning Norton Antivirus said I have a virus on my computer. It said repair was unsucessful and and I tried to quarantine the file.

The Virus it said I had was backdoor.Sdbot trojan horse. Then the computer got real real slow. Now this computer hasn't been hooked up to the internet for a few months and I just set up a wireless network a couple of weeks ago but havent used the computer since then.

Don't know if this is relative but for the last few months while the computer has been offline I get a message saying that a program is requesting access to the internet www.ryancbj1918.net or something like that. I am no longer recieving that message.

I have norton antivirus 2004 pro (just upgraded today from norton 2003 but it still dosent seem to want to work. When i boot the machine and try and open it it opens and then goes to (not responding) . as per nortons instructions to get rid of the virus It made me disable system restore. did that and a scan in safe mode but still ahve a major problem .
Interestingly while on hold today I have been able to play solitare without difficulty. But opening pretty much any other program has been near impossible.

I ran norton in safe mode and it found and deleted one virus but I can't get ti to run regularly and made me uninstall it saying my registration is corrupted.

The computer is a gateway pentium 4. 1.7 running XP home

Any help would be greatly appreciated sorry I'm not too technically savvy in my descriptions. If you ned more info to asist me just ask and i'll provide you with any thinkg i can.
