Hi! I'm new here and i'm not sure if this has been asked before.

Here's the problem: [and i've been dealing with this for quite a while now]
My pc suddenly restarts, or if not, it just freezes. The sudden restarts usually happens by the time windows has loaded or sometime in the middle when im using it, same goes with the freezing part.

    Now, here's the story:
I've had this pc for more than a year now and it was working just fine not until a few months ago. It all happened when i was working on a project and then my computer suddenly restarted so i thought i was having problems with power [a power surge probably]. The following day, it kept on repeating and made me really frustrated. And so i brought it over a local technician and told me it's probably a memory problem. He advised me leave the pc overnight so he can do some tests, and so i did. The next day he told me he fixed it already but reduced my processor speed to 500mhz but he didn't really explained to me why he did that, he just said that was the solution he came up with. I was bummed but hey as long as i can use it immediately. It was working fine for a couple of weeks and then it freezes, so i reboot, and then the sudden restarts occured. I was like "My computer's gone crazy WTF!?". Right now, i'm thinking of buying a new processor, motherboard, probably new RAMs coz i think that's were the problem is. Still im hoping to get some help here. Probably someone here knows how to deal with my problem, if you need further details or clarifications about it please ask. I'd really appreciate your help. Thank you!

    about my pc:

    - 256 SDRAM

If he reduced your cpu speed, plus the problems that your mentioning, your heatsink is coming off the core; causing alot of heat. Super duper long time ago I had the same problem with my PIII the heatsink slowly came off after about 2 or so years of using it.

so i just need to replace the heatsink on my processor then? btw, the problem happened even before my room got airconditioned coz right now, since the room's AC'd, my CPU temp is around 28-40 degrees. Before the airconditioning, however, it reached up to 70 degrees.

you can also check your memory is good before you start taking stuff apart, download memtest from the downloads section and let it run for a couple of hours :)

Thanks man, but actually i've tried that already and it's still thesame and there's nothing wrong with the RAM. I've even tried using a friend's RAM [his RAM is working just fine aswell] but my pc still keeps on restarting whenever i try to set it back to 1ghz.

By the sounds of it, it sounds like your cpu is a little tto speedy for your motherboard to handle, you can solve this by either getting a new mainboard or you can see if u can get a BIOS upgrade. Sorry if this doesn't help :(

Oh I forgot to say, Check your motherboad manual first just to see if this is the problem.
