i have used smallvideosoft's freez screen capture software,
my system seemed to slow down a bit,
so i unistalled it, and the system did not speed back up,
i am positive it has left a part of itself behind and i was wondering if anyone can tell me what key or file i need to locate and remove.

(if i reinstall it it tells me it has been installed before)

i ran regclean and Lexun RegScrubXP 3.25 but there is still something on my system...

    thanks

    no joy

it still has left something behind. (removed everything that was the program name, executable name and the manufacturer)

(it still knows it has been on the system)

now then, there is a workaround to beat the time limited part of the program,
there has to be or their advertising of it would see them in deep water legally,
they just dont tell you how to do it
    (i can do it)
    so thats not the issue

and the issue is not that they have any data from my machine stored on their servers, they dont, i have software and hardware firewall's that see to that. (and i saved the install exe that they downloaded)

the issue is there is something stored on my machine,
something that lets the software know it has been installed before,
a piece of data, a dll, something, somewhere...

and i do not like that.

(remember i know the bypass for the time-bomb, i can already use the software after the time limit)

I Want That Data Object or File Gone - it's my machine, it's my hardware, not theirs.

Thanks for the advice, i did not manage to identify anything to kill off,
so i think i'll wipe the slate clean (data backup and format ) and try out that Camstudio when i bring the system back online.
This particular machine was setup by the manufacturer and i think some of their proprietary software can go "bye bye" too.

the workaround for Freez Screen Capture, when using the software and the "register or die" popup appears click "register later",
after a while the software then loads a second popup announcing "the program will now close"
move that popup out of the way and use the F# key as directed to start recording,
then click the "program will now close" "ok",
a new popup appears saying "cannot close program while recording, please stop recording",
click "ok" and all warning close down and program will now work for the current session, you can stop and start, change settings and everything, but dont close the program completely until you are done.

Each time you load from then on simply walk through the above workaround

me? - i'm going to try Camstudio instead...once i rebuild the system...

When i format the hardrive the software and it's hooks will be gone,

NOW if the software cannot communicate with the internet,
and it sure cannot communicate with the install file i downloaded (on a different machine and copied to this machine)
then HOW can it know it has been on this machine before after a reformat?

it is not sentient, it cannot remember, and it cannot ask anybody,
so it cannot know After i reformat.

the Only way it knows Now (before i rebuild) is it has a piece of itself squirreled away
i do not like that, i do not like something cluttering my machine, lurking, maybe even storing data.

as for the workaround - nowhere else on the web will you find that posted. It is for educational purposes that i post it.

Is it possible that an un-install utility might help?
They claim to clean out dreck left behind by the official app uninstaller, but some, like TotalUninstall, need to monitor the original installation to work well.

Back in Win98 days, I used and liked Norton's Clean Sweep (part of SystemWorks), it did a great job of finding orphaned files and dead Registry entries even if it had not monitored the installation. But I don't know how thorough the newer version is.

I'm about to try RevoUnistaller after reading some favorable user reviews on some other sites.

You have to run the Uninstaller before you install the program. I use Total Uninstall to be sure all the drek comes out of the registry when I install something I'm not sure that I want to keep. It takes a snapshot before the install, you install the program then TU takes another snapshot and keeps track of all the registry changes/additions.
