Downloaded an unidentified security software.

On next startup, (All!!!) Desktop Items; File & Program Names; Menu Choices;
& URL Addresses Are Encoded!

Looks like the hieroglyphics on the Roswell Artifact.

Op Efficiency Severely Impaired.

Running MS XP-Pro.

Need Help!!!

 

Robo, just out of curiousity (I don't have XP yet), how does Restore Point work. Does it do a full backup as at the time you elect to carry out a Restore Point? If not, how does it work? How long does it take. Can you set up XP to do a Restore automatically at bootup?
I assume that whenever you install new programs, or do anything or your PC, you lose them when carrying out a Restore just like a backup does in 98. Baz

in the search box type in system restore
then click on frequently asked question regarding system restore in windows xp

system restore is great.
If you bugger up something can simply restore pc to earler state, only takes few minutes ( xp will automaticly set restore points, or you can manually set your own, if you set restore point download something bad pc works poorly, you can simply restore to previous state, and then all will be same as was.
You can also can do restore at boot up, when boot just press F8 key to Advanced start up options

What OS are you using, 2K is similar, but no restore.

 

ASUS and Robo, thanks for the answers. I'll check out microsoft.com I'm using W98SE for the forseeable future (broke) but am always interested in anything do do with XP and improving my knowledge. Hopefully it also staves off "oldtimers" disease. Baz
