OK.. not really sure what is going on but here is the scoop:
System running WinXP SP2 / Norton IS 2010

It seems to have started at midnight when the email stopped flowing.
System is NOT getting email nor able to connect to the Internet.
Certain programs can still access the internet (malwarebytes, yahoo widgets..) but I am unable to open Norton IS.

So, I think it has something to do with Norton. Trying to uninstall NIS but up pops a window saying that there is already an installer running and that I need to wait... but nothing happens after that.

I did try disabling all programs/services but still got the same message when I went to uninstall and NOW... it is prompting me to re-activate the OS which I can't because it is not finding a path to the internet.

    Anyone got some ideas?

    Thanks for the input...
Resolved the issue... was related to a Norton download/update.
Had to go F8 and then selected Last Known Good Configuration, that prompted the CHKDSK process which found some lost files... after all that ran, rebooted and logged in to a nicely running windows.

Ran some updates (yes, even Norton) and so far working good...

    thanks
