    Hi,
My HP PC is bundled with this 7-in-1 card reader that can read SD, MMC, CF,...and includes with 2 x USB ports. I have been using the USB flash memory stick without any problem. Recently, when I get hold of SD card, I have no problem using it, ie. I am able to copy, delete, move...files between the card and harddisk. However, when I try to 'unmount' it via the system tray and/or through 'Eject' within the Explorer window, the PC hangs. Fortunately, I can Ctl-Atl-Del and click on 'Restart' or 'Shut Down' and so the PC could be rebooted successfully.

Can someone pls advise how I could overcome this problem. Thank you very much.

    Rgds.

I personally don’t “unmount” / “eject” my flash memory device (either USB drive or CF). I know people say it’s advisable; but after 4 yrs of using a CF / USB drive, I can honestly say I have NEVER lost any data.

Just use common sense, don’t remove it while you’re accessing it (copy to or from) and you should be fine.

This would therefore prevent your PC from crashing / hanging.

    Hi,
Well, you are quite right to indicate that to leave it in there, why bother to remove it to create problem for yourself. Nevertheless, as a portable gadget. very similar to the USB flash memory stick, I am quite sure the functionaility and operations of SD card is very much UNLIKE a harddisk that is mounted dead within the PC.

A SD card is so common among digital cameras and PDA newadays. It is such a helpful and convenient external storage available on hand. It is just one another techie stuff that attempts to delight a techie lifestyle.

I have several of these (and of couse USB flash memory). Therefore, I am trying to make full use of the intended portability, such that I could conveniently mount/unmount the SD card WITHOUT hanging Windows XP.

As mentioned, I am NOT having any problem while using it to copy or moving or deleting......Windows XP hangs when I try to eject it within the Explorer window or 'Stop' it via the System tray.

So, I do hope someone can help to address this techical issue. I await patiently for some good techie advice. Thank you in advance.

    Rgds

What I meant to say is this:

u can remove said device without "unmounting" / "ejecting" / "stopping" it in software. As long as you are not copying to or from the device, u should suffer ZERO data loss.
