Help Setting Up Access Point?

I am working on setting up a linksys wap200 on a network already up with 5 zyxel g-3000h access points running. They asked me to set up the linksys access point as a favor, and I’m not that technology savvy. For some reason I cannot get the AP to run and communicate with the router, and combine settings to run with the network. I followed the instructions, used a static IP and logged into the router. I’m not sure which settings to modify in the AP to get it to work as an AP. The server IP is 10.1.10.1, same with DNS server. The security password for the network is only 5 letters, lets say “point”. The MAC address is 00:13:49:9D:92:72 running on channel 3.

Do I need to set the AP as a static IP or DHCP? If static, for local IP address do I use a unique IP on the network? Do I set it up as a Access Point or Wireless Repeater? Do I need to use the MAC address of the router and same channel? Do I change the SSID to the same name as the network? Do I need in wireless security to use the same mode and password as the current network? If so, the 5 letter “point” password is not an acceptable length. Can I get around that? Do I want SSID broadcast enabled or disabled?

Any questions I need to answer I will be happy to comply.

    Thanks,

    Wayne

First off are they using an IP scheme? Are there reserved IPs for devices on the network? If not then plug it in and let it use DHCP so you don't mess up & create a conflict. Is the WAP doing DHCP also? I don't have specs on the model.
Are they looking for a repeater to extend the current network?

Yes, I believe it is an IP scheme. I don't think there are reserved IP's. The WAP is not doing DHCP until I tell it to.

They are looking to extend the network from a central router in another location. We have a network cable that they ran from the switch attached to their router.

    Hi bwjudy,

since there is already 5 zyxel g-3000h access points running, I'd swap out that linksys wap200 for another zyxel if possible as it's best to use the same brand/model for networking. especially a business.

if no go, then access the settings on 1 of the 5 zyxel's and use those settings as a guide to configing the wap200.

Is there any easy way of finding out one of the ip's of a zyxel access point in order to login to the settings?
