I'm totally freaking out!! All of a sudden this thing is running like SLUDGE!!! And I have a decent fast computer. I'm spoiled by it. But now ...out of NOWHERE ...the thing is running so slow that it takes like 5 minutes just to get an application running ..IF it will run at all. It just doesn't work. Like for example ...AOL keeps saying it needs new files to work ...like I just installed it or something ...and that's NOT TRUE...and then it will freeze and nothing works. Or if I try to load Internet Explorer ..it takes like five minutes to get the page up. Or if I run media player ...same thing. Everything is running way too slow. I can't even run spyware or virus scans. Any ideas on what's wrong??? I really don't want to have to reformat it ...but if it stays this way ...I can't use it. http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Sounds like adware. What you want to do is run an adware program in Safe Mode and at startup.

You need to go to the spyware forum and follow this thread AS CLOSELY AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE....

    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407

Then if that doesn't resolve your problems...THEN ask for help in that forum!! They are scary smart over there!!!!

And remember....DO NOT POST HJT LOGS UNTIL SOMEONE ASK FOR IT!!!!

Those system specs look almost identical to mine! Though, I have a BFG 6800OC video card and a gigabyte motherboard.

Though, personally, I think my machine is slow. :)

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be a bad stick of memory. it wouldn't hurt to download and run docmem or another memory program. you can usually download them on another computer put it to floppy the run on your rig. it may not be it but its worth a try if spy ware check doesn't find anything.

Ok ...I tried all of these suggestions (took the better half of the night) and NOTHING has changed. It took me almost 5 minutes just to pull up IE and to run all those programs??? UGH!! One took almost 10 minutes just to load. Now that is totally NOT normal... What could be wrong??? I'm soooo frustrated! I've NEVER seen a computer run this slow ...and it's not even a year old!

AOL is my weakness, just as Kryptonite is a weakness to SuperMan!
