I am in the process of cleaning up the old computer and all the other parts (keyboard, speakers, printer) and decided to give the old mouse a thorough cleaning while I was at it... it really needed it. Well, now thats it all clean, I have run into a bit of a problem... I can't remember how to put it back together exactly... yes smart, I know  ... I know where pretty much all the pieces go except for a small spring (coiled with 2 wires coming out opposite directions, one from on top of the coil and one from on the bottom) and a small piece of wire (kind of hard to explain it... both ends are shaped like a U but one is rounded the other is squared, they run perpencidular to each other... sorry). I know its easier to just go buy a new mouse but it still works fine... just in pieces at the moment  I was hoping someone might be able to help me put it back together. I should mention its an older mouse, a logitech with the mouse ball (not optical). Also, on my new computer, I can hear the mouse click through the speakers even when I am listening to music. I was wondering how I can disable that so I don't hear every mouse click I make through the speakers. Thanks in advance

Interesting problem:) I'll do my best to help, with what I'v got ATM there a springy thing shaped like U that needs a home, first post the model of the mouse, also if you can post a picture of the inside of the mouse I have a logitech M-S48 my workhorse thats around 8 years old, first and only mouse I'v ever used which I rebuild every time I clean it,I'll post some pics of the inside see if it helps, the only springs I can think of from memory are the roller springs that push the rollers onto the mouse ball

    I'll have a look ;)

EDIT not heard of a mouse click through the speakers before,in windows,is this on a game, what operating system are you using?

Unfortunately I can't post a picture of the insides, no digital camera. The model is a Logitech M-S48a. I found where to put the spring-like thing that fell out, its the one that you put as the only spring you could see. The little spring you labeled "there's one behind here too" never fell out, thank goodness. The only piece I can't figure out where to put is a small piece of wire. It's not a spring just a wire, about 3/4 of an inch long. A hook on either end, one squared one rounded. This will be the worst attempt ever at drawing but well it kinda looks like this c____P (the c being the rounded hook, the P being the squared hook) now imagine the p as fallen away from you and is lying flat... yea like I said worst attempt ever  hmm the rounded half of the wire actually kind of looks a lot like a staple... As for the clicking mouse problem. I am using Windows XP, the noise doesn't happen during a game but happens when I click on a link or IE button (stop, refresh, etc.) I can hear it even if I am listening to music on my computer. It also makes the clicking noise when a page redirects, for instance when I log into MG and it takes you to the loading screen where it welcomes you, it clicks when it redirects me to the list of forums even though I don't click the mouse itself. I read about it on the forums awhile ago, someone had the same problem, but I can't seem to find the posting again. I tried search but I can't seem to find it out of all the results. Thanks again for you help.

Yeh clicking sound is normal in internet explorer,to disable it go to control panel, sounds and audio devices, sounds and select no sounds or if you would like to keep other sounds scroll down the page and disable the audio file for each sound you do not wish to hear a click for

My guess is it may be the spring tension mechanism for the mouse buttons have a look in the roof of the mouse for a couple of plastic hooks to attach it to

Okay, sorry for the REALLY long delay in responding to this, i have been out of the country for the last few weeks. I never did figure out how and where exactly to re-attach that little metal wire but I reassembled the mouse and it works just find, except the scrolling wheel doesn't make any clicking noise anymore. It still works for scrolling but there isn't any tension on it so I guess the metal wire had something to do with the wheel tension. Brilliant conclusion to reach eh :D Anyway, you can close this thread if you like now. Thank you for the help.

I came upon this forum because I was having a similar problem. I figured it out with the help of the second image on this page. The "c" side of the staple-like wire goes in the little hole located at the top of the plastic piece that fits around the axle, and wraps around so the "p" side is touching the scrollwheel.

I'm sure it's too late to resolve the initial poster's issue, but others may benefit from this in the future. :)
