Help to set up printer to use USB cable instead of network

Hi all,
I am trying to print from my new laptop. My new laptop is a Sony Vaio with Windows 7.
My printer is a HP Officejet Pro L7590.
My printer has been installed on my laptop, however, I cannot get it to print because it is calibrated to print from the network, not the USB cable.
My printer itself has never been set up to be on the Ethernet network. It has always printed on my former computer from the USB cable only.
I have been trying to figure out how to have my laptop print from the USB cable, but I cannot find out how. It does not work when I connect the USB cable from the printer to the laptop.
Can anyone advise me how to calibrate my computer to have my printer print via the USB cable?

Try connecting the printer via a USB cable then:
Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers. Find your printer, right click and select 'Printer properties'. Select the ports tab, hopefully you'll see something like http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/3499/captureubd.jpg
Put a check mark in the USB port and uncheck any other port that is checked, if it's not listed then click the 'Add Port...' button and see if you can find the USB port that the printer is connected to.

 

First off, you do not calibrate the printer to print on USB or network. If the Operating System is not seeing the printer, you need to load the drivers. If after that, it still does not see the printer, try another USB cable and make sure that the printer is on.
