If there is a link I could follow for instructions, I'd appreciate that.

If there is additional information I can give to help direct me to the proper link please let me know.

I had the three computers connected before but I have since moved and gotten rid of the third computer.

I have tried wireless setup wizard and also network wizard. I am told by my host computer "other computers cannot connect to the internet through this computer"

The second computer has a wireless connection internal that I had previously installed if that helps at all.

The host network adapter is broadcom netXtreme 57xx Gigabit controller
The client computer has airlink 101 PCI adapter

    Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

I tried this exact page yesterday with no luck, although I will start again and see if perhaps I missed something.

    Thanks,

ok this is totally frustrating me. I am using Windows XP home edition. My router is airlink101 model AR690W.
I tried following both links you have sent and the microsoft one tells me that my host computer connection has limited or no connectivity. I click repair and it can not renew my IP address. So I go back to the initial setup (so I have internet access)

I clicked on the second link you gave me and I can't get past Step One:
    Connect to the router.

Plug the router's power supply into an outlet. Once it's on, look for the name of the router in your computer's wireless network list. This router's default name is "linksys," which appeared immediately in my wireless access point (AP) list when it was plugged in. Connect to the new router just by selecting it from your list.

-- There is no name in any list I can find that says Linksys--

Ok so I found the manual on the airlink website. It says the following

    Connecting the Router

Note: Prior to connecting the router, be sure to power off your computer, DSL/Cable
modem, and the router. You should setup the router with a wired connection first before
attempting to setup any wireless connections.

Step 1 Connect one end of a network cable to the WAN port of the router and connect
the other end of the cable to the DSL/Cable modem.

Step 2 With another network cable, connect one end of the cable to your computer’s
network card and connect the other end to one of the LAN (Ethernet) ports of the router.

Step 3 Power on the DSL/Cable modem and wait for the lights on the modem to settle
    down.

Step 4 Power on the router by connecting one end of the supplied power adapter to the
power jack of the router and connecting the other end to an electrical outlet.

Step 5 Power on your computer.

Step 6 Make sure the WAN, WLAN, and the LAN ports that the computer is connected
to are lit. If not, try the above steps again.

So everything looks GREAT.... I proceed to the next step:

    Verifying Connection to the Router

Step 1 Go to Start, Run, type command (for Windows 95/98/ME) or cmd (for Windows
2000/XP) and click OK. You will see the command prompt as below.

Step 2 Type ping 192.168.1.1 and press Enter. You should get four reply responses
    back.

Step 3 If you get Request timed out, or Destination host unreachable, double-check
the network cable connection between the computer and the router and try Step 2 again.

If you still encounter problem, go to the next step; otherwise proceed to Section 3,Configuring the Router.

    I get "Destination host unreachable"

I have triple checked all cords and plugs I tried different cable cords thinking maybe the network plug isn't working or the cable one is faulty but it never makes a difference. I have followed these directions exactly and I am so stumped that any other ideas would be welcomed!!!!

    ADDITIONAL INFO:

The bottom right icon for my local area connection says unplugged or sometimes it would say Limited or no connectivity. When I click "repair" it tries to renew my IP Address and always fails

Did you proceed to step 4 and 5 in your manual?

    Step 4 & 5
In the command box type ipconfig /release and then type ipconfig /renew.
If you get an IP address of 192.168.1.x then you are connected to the router.

Step 5 at the end has you resetting the router to factory defaults if you still don't get an IP address.

I released the IP then tried to renew and it gives me the error "Unable to contact DHCP Server"

Then I tried doing a winsock fix *didn't help*

I went to help and support and did a diagnostic scan it said under the network adapters my DHCP server has an invalid IP Address

earlier I checked to make sure I had a firmware upgrade for my router

I tried resetting my IP on the router by pressing the reset button for 10 seconds in the back ... didn't help

The errors I mentioned above regarding my DHCP I am unsure how to proceed.

    Thank you for your reply!

I will try what you have mentioned above...and report back

    Ok so...

I tried the ping IP address thing and it still says destination host unreachable
    packets: Sent=4, received=0, Lost=4 (100% loss)

ipconfig /release and renew Resulted in:
Error occured renewing interface local area connection: unable to contact your DHCP Server. Request timed out

    I did an ipconfig /all

    Primary DNS -
    Node Type - mixed
    IP routing enabled - no
    WINS Proxy enabled - no

    Ethernet adapter local area connection

Connection - specific DNS Suffix -
Description - Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx gigabit controller

    roller

physical address (I'm sure not needed in post)
    DHCP enabled - yes
    autoconfiguration enabled - yes
    autoconfiguration IP address - 169.254.0.232
    subnet mask 255.255.0.0
    default gateway -

Then I did a hard reset at the back of my router again...held for 10 seconds tried everything again and receive the same results

Still says limited or no connectivity at the bottom right corner

Any third party software firewalls installed?
Try disabling them and the Windows firewall and try to connect again.
If that doesn't work, try booting into Safe Mode with Networking (F8 taps at restart) and try connecting there.
You could also try uninstalling the gigabit controller from device manager and restarting the comp. (Right click the controller in device manager and choose Uninstall. This will reload the drivers at start up.)
After that, try again with the connection.
If none of that works, I would begin to suspect a bad router or Wan plug from the factory. I would be out of ideas at this point.
    Anyone else can chime in.

Can you tell us if there have ever been any other installs of antivirus or firewalls on this PC? If they were not uninstalled completely (very hard to do), they could easily be causing this problem and will need the correct tools to remove before you can move forward.

See the final post in a similar thread from just a few days ago.

No connection in safe mode...I get different errors.

first I checked device manager to see if there were errors ..everything is good

in cmd when I try to ping the ip address it now says unable to contact IP driver

when I type ipconfig release and renew it says

internal error occurred request is not supported please contact microsoft product support services

optional information - unable to query host name

I have had previous norton but when I uninstalled it I used the uninstall program...I didn't delete it in add/remove. I was told doing it that way assured it would be ALL gone

    I am sad!:cry

OK something sort of interesting happened after I did all that....re-connected my cables and re-started. Now the icon in the bottom right tells me the network connection is unplugged but my modem shows all systems go and so does my wireless router... :confused

Ok, now go to the properties of your network adapter and try setting your default gateway and DNS server to the address of your router - 192.168.1.1?

    Can you ping 192.168.1.1 now?

Does an ipconfig /release then /renew make any difference?

ok this may be a supid question but...do I get to the properties of my network adapter from my network connections in control panel? IE: Local Area connection - properties? If so I don't see an option there that has gateway or DNS server listed

OK so I found network adapters in my device manager...sorry I have been plugging away at this since 9am and it is now 11pm. My brain is melting

So I went to the properties in my device manager and don't see a place where I can change the gateway or dns server
