    Hi everyone,

I want to upgrade my PC without breaking the bank. I need CPU, motherboard and RAM.

I think my tower, hard drives and graphics are okay.

The motherboard needs to have built in bluetooth and wifi and ideally 8 USB ports.

This is not for gaming, so good quality budget stuff would be ideal.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You can add Bluetooth, WiFi, & USB ports to what you have. To me what you have is not that bad. What are you needing to do other than the additions you mentioned are you wanting to do, that your PC will not do now?

Hi thanks for the reply. The motherboard seems to have major glitches. I'm using a dongle for the Bluetooth because the Bluetooth doesn't work. The Wi-Fi does pick anything up and some USB ports are temperamental, at best.
Seems a good idea to upgrade the CPU and Ram at the same time. Although, I'm not gaming(the odd gold game, that's it), I use my PC for a lot of things, Zoom, Teams and a few other things.
I want everything tidy and need a lot of USB ports at the same time. I'd rather have the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth built in to avoid the clutter and release more USBs for other use.

FYI - a new motherboard, CPU and RAM is essentially (and legally for licensing purposes) a new computer.

You say you don't want to break the bank but didn't state your budget either. In any case, it will be a significant withdrawal.

I don't think you are going to find a budget motherboard with 8 USB ports - at least a nice selection to choose from. I agree with A1phaG33k, you can add later.

Since you are not a gamer, a modern CPU and motherboard with integrated graphics will suit you fine - if you get a decent amount of modern RAM. These days, I recommend 16GB minimum.

Also, a hard drive will bottleneck any system - at least with disk access tasks. The extra RAM will help, but even the slowest SSD will run circles around the fastest hard drives.

Last, if I am buying a new computer platform (motherboard, CPU and RAM) I make sure I am feeding it well. So I get a new, quality PSU from a reputable maker. I like Seasonic and EVGA Gold PSUs.

    Thanks for your reply.

A new system was in mind, but I've got a decent graphics card and SSD drive. I had considered getting something new and upgrading the hard drive and card with the ones I had, but I thought not needing a tower would have reduced the cost.
I'm not penny-pinching, so I should have said VFM. Good point about the budget. I'd have preferred not to go above £500. I'm in Thailand, but most things can be bought here. Possibly a little cheaper too.
Even though I'm not 'gaming' I'd want something for the future. I'm still working on the PC 10 hours a day, and this one is giving me stability issues that I'd prefer not to have.
