On a machine running M.E. I have been unable to boot-up due to an "Explorer has caused a fault in GDI32.DLL" error. Clicking the closed button only leaves me with the background and the boot stops completly.

I have restarted numerous times to no avail.

I have also tried booting into SafeMode by using the "Ctrl" key (as I was told that's what is used in M.E.), as well as F5 key. Neither seems to get it done.

Would it be safe to reload the O.S. thru the start-up disk WITHOUT losing all programs pre-installed or is there a fix I can try?

ALL help is greatly appreciated as this computer will be going to a disadvantaged child for Xmas.
