Haven't been here in awhile, so I would like to say Hello to everyone once again. I love the new feature for the Title Search Threads thing-a-magiger.

Ok, I just recently bought a new vid card for my PC. Not new at all, but I wanted to set apart from the onboard graphics card and pop in something that will get me a better picture and make any games less choppy.

I have done the following and it has not worked. I uninstalled the drivers from the onboard graphics card, shut down pc and installed the new graphics card, then the problem occurs. The whole boot sequence starts up, theres even a short second where it shows the new graphic card specs [which it never had before], then it goes to a black screen. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I read about disabling the onboard graphics card through the BIOS menu, but I haven't really found that option or if I did, it didn't work.

    PC:
    Windows XP SP2
    Mobo:
    M7VIG 400
    RAM:
    512MB
    Processor:
    AMD Sempron 2200+

The graphics card I purchased was a e-GeForce FX5500 AGP 4x/8x... My PC uses AGP. Any other information you may need, feel free to ask! Please, any help will be appreciated.

    Thank you in advance! ;]

    You did the install backwards.
    To install a video card.
    1 shut down PC
2 plug video card into mother board.
3 start up pc, windoze plug & play will pick up the
new video card, then you follow the instructions that plug & play gives you.

You dont need to do the bios thing, on board video is disabled automatically.

The solution you gave didn't work either. ;/

I'm going to retry what you said, but I doubt it will work. I did it last night and had no luck. ;(

Did you select the correct video adapter in your BIOS? When I put my GeForce in, I had to select the PCI-E option as my video adapter. So make sure that yours has AGP selected.

Yeap, I checked and it says AGP. I also retried just plugging it in and starting up. Didn't work. ;(

When I plugged it in and started the PC, it went to a screen that described the vid card briefly then it just went to the screen where it shows the computer description and when it's SUPPOSED to go to the Windows boot screen, it just goes to a black screen.

Thats because the first thing you did was uninstall the drivers from the onboard graphics card. You cannot run a computer with no video drivers. :neener

Did you try starting the computer in "safe mode" ??????

I reinstalled the drivers, then I tried your solution. Didn't work.

I tryed running in safe mode and when it trys to load, it like freezes at MUP.dll I think it was.

"..., on board video is disabled automatically"

This doesn't happen on all motherboards. On some you must disable the onboard video in the bios. It sounds as though you've done that, but if there are two choices as to the PCI/AGP, you've chosen the wrong one in the bios, hence the black screen.

Any video card will default to standard VGA, 16 colors, 640 X 480 if there are no drivers for it.

CMach08, did I understand you to say that you bought a used video card?
It sounds like that card is hooped.

No, it's not used... It's in the box and brand new. ;/

Well, i dunno then, sounds like us guys and you have gone thru everything....
It would be nice if you could but the card in a different PC to see if it works.

I have never had a problem with any GeForce card, and ive had a few of them.
I have had trouble with Radeon cards tho....

check in bios and see if you have a setting for ACPI make sure its enabled. I had a pc that would get to loading bar and then go black because this was disabled.

I'm not home at the moment, but when I do I will check. Just to restate, I don't even get the Windows logo w/ the loading bar. When I install it, I can access BIOS and all that but just can't get into Windows.

Could it be that, that section of the mobo is not operating properly?

see if you can borrow a different video card and see how it goes.
