I have had Norton 360 on my Windows XP Pro SP3 PC for a while but my PC still hangs, crashes etc...So I came here to MajorGeeks last week to try something different.

I removed Norton 360 - and have put the following on my computer:

    All Windows Updates
    CCleaner
    MBAM
    SuperAntiSpyware (bought Pro version)

I went back to using the Windows firewall

My question is do I need more to protect my PC?

Should I also get Comondo? and use it's Firewall and Internet Security???

    Thanks in advance

    Hello, Electro-User

Yes! You definitely need to have an anti-virus program and a better firewall than the Windows Firewall.

You'll find a variety of personal choices and opinions for both. Refer to the guide - How to Protect yourself from malware! for our recommended applications.

*My opinion of the Comodo Internet Security suite is high.

    Hi Electro-User,

I'm Louis and I work with Symantec. Sorry to hear you were having trouble with your computer. Which version of Norton 360 were you using?

I downloaded Comodo Internet Security and put it on my computer but am having problems.

    1) My internet will just stop working after 10 minutes or so.
    2) I will walk away from the computer for a couple of minutes and when I come back it looks like it is trying to shut down and I have a blue screen with a dialogue box that says " Saving your settings" but it doesn't go anyware or do anything. I can wait an hour and nothing happens. I have to unplug it to restart it as Ctrl/Alt/Del won't work and I can't get the Task manager to come up either
    3) Comondo keeps blocking a "DISCover.exe" each time the machine starts. (also when I open ANY program (MS Word etc) Comondo pops up saying it not on its safe list or it is unclassified malware etc) And it doesn't always thell me what it is. Like as I am typing this it just poped up an Alert...name: Unclassified Malware@5202863 -- Location: D:\System Volume Information\_rest...\A0107332.exe ???

Please keep in mind before I install Comondo I did a Windoes Update, ran Windows malisous Software Removal tool, Ran CCleaner, malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware Pro version

Please help as I don't want to go back to Norton 360 Version 2

    What is DISCover.exe?

    First:
    • Using Windows Explorer > Search > DISCover.exe
    • Navigate to its found directory and then right click on it and select Properties.
    • Click the Version tab in the window.
    • On the next window select each of the listed Item names (one at a time) to get more info about the file. *The most important Item is the company name.

Now - with the info you gathered, use these links to find out if it's something that you should block or something you should list as a Trusted Application and allow it to access the internet.

You have malware detected in a Restore Point. *AFTER* you have made sure that your pc is otherwise clean - use the following link to flush your restore points.

    Disable And Enable System Restore

While waiting for help properly configuring CIS, I would suggest that you visit this page and get familiar with how it works.
