    Hello,

I need some help; Windows XP will suddenly not load after reboot. It goes to the XP splash screen with the progress bar, blinks once, and then goes black. The cursor shows up, but it does not load the rest. I have tried to use "Last known configuration" etc, but to no avail. It loads in Safe Mode, but not in normal. Does anyone have any ideas?

My OS is XP Build 2600 Service Pack 2.

    Thanks in advance.

Could be a conflict with a program that starts at boot.

Try this: While in Safe Mode open msconfig - Start>>Run.

In Run type in msconfig, click OK

Go to the startup tab and uncheck the first 3 startup entries.

While in msconfig click the BOOT.INI tab and unselect the /SAFEBOOT check box (if it is checked)

    Restart your computer.

If you have the same problem, boot back into Safe Mode, open msconfig, recheck the three entries you unchecked in the Startup tab, uncheck the next 3 entries, reboot.

Keep doing this till you boot normal. If it boots normal then one of the three startup programs left unchecked is the culprit.

Also while in Safe Mode check the Device Manager and look for any red Xs or yellow triangles containing a black exclamation mark.

I already wrote this once so I'ma' just gonna copy it over here.
Try this, it tends to fix alot of boot problems.

    Okay.

If you have a windows CD place it into your disk tray.
When your computer starts hit F12 to get to the boot menu
    Select boot from CD/DVD etc.
The windows startup manger should boot.. just let it do it's thing untill it gives you options.
Press "R" to access the recovery window.

At this point you may be prompted for your password, this is the password you used initaily to set up windows.
You may also be asked to select a partition/install. 1 or 2. I would suggest doing both. (1 first then restart and do 2)

At this point simply type "chkdsk /r" without the qoutes.
It will do it's check once it's done type "exit" and reboot.

HOPFULLY this should solf your problems.
Sorry for all the spelling mistakes I'm to lazy to spell check.
