i have a a6640d HP computer and have an OS of windows 7.. everything is working fine but then when i tried to insert my SD memory card in the built-in card reader it was working fine, but when i tried to insert the SD again.. the autoplay pops up BUT it was not listed as one of the drives in the my computer..but this is the tricky part when tried for the third time there was no autoplay and no detection in my computer.. the only solution for me is to attached the SD in a external card reader and then attach it to the USB port.. but still i need the built-in card reader to be running smoothly..please help me with this..thanks in advance..

    Hi

As Windows 7 is beta, then if you wish smooth and stable performance from your card reader you would be best to go back to Vista or XP in the previous Windows versions, or wait and see if the Release Candidate version for Windows 7 due anytime fixes this.

Do you have any yellow ! marks in Device Manager and if so what next too?

Could well be that the card reader drivers are not fully Windows 7 compatible as yet, but try re-installing the Vista ones from the HP Driver CD if supplied.

i also checked the device manager.. there is no yellow icon or signal on the drivers.. that is why i am confused of what to do.. cause i made sure that i installed all the necessary drivers of the computer.. do you have any sites or url of the 15-in-1 built in card reader of a6640d HP?? thanks for the reply btw

    Hi

Sadly HP dont list those drivers for that model PC in the drivers section (poor if you ask me) and having a look to see if I could find whos 15-1 media reader hardware and drivers they using and found nothing, but try installing Everest and see if in the Storage > Windows Storage or in Devices > Physical Devices menu there are any mention of Card Reader Controller and post the info, if their is what looks like a model code, (eg. ENE Tech CB-712/714/810 CardBus Controller, which is one in my laptop)

From this info we maybe able to find the original companies driver or a compatible one from another HP PC model.

Everest Free works ok in Windows 7

But in the end it may just be one of those bugs in beta versions of this OS, RC version is due soon, so this maybe one of those cleared up issues as earlier I was reading about other testers who have weird issues with USB/Card Readers etc.

Also use the Feedback icon to report this issue to the Windows 7 developement team.

    Hi

Was afraid that HP would install some generic brand reader that has no name, looked for an hour or so for info on what media reader is installed in that PC, but no luck, I would suggest emailing HP support for advice on what device brand this is and if a Vista driver is available for download.

This also could just be an issue with Windows 7 and that device, until some makers have updated their drivers, this occurance is happening to many others with various drivers as beta Windows versions do not always have full support until they go final.
