its a .TMP file... so should be safe to delete it. Windows 2003 Server is it? or XP? Do you have Shadow Copy service running by any chance?

Please provide OS version, basic hardware specs and any roles youve set it up to have, if youre into the whole roles thing, and a list of running services would be nice too.

Also the properties of the file would be good

Oh, and also what servers do you have running on this? you just using it as a file server only? i dont think smb shares (which is what i think youre using) generate any tmp files... make sure youve got no extra services you dont need running on the box, in other words lock it down. Try a restart, see if whatever process thats trying to access that file leaves go of it.

You can always boot into safe mode.

If it's in the root directory, you can even boot to the Recovery Console and delete it.

A quick google on the first part of the filename came up with this:

As near I can tell, it's a temp file for Advanced Open File Option from VERITAS Backup Exec.

    No, he's "da chicken" ;)

IF that file proves to be too stubborn even for the recovery console (doubt it), you can use DelLater to nuke it. If not it's still a nice little proggie to have in your toolbox.
