When an unknown device appears with a yellow ! in the Device Manager, and it simply says "PCI Device", it is usually a sound card (or other sound device like an HDMI audio adapter on higher end video cards, or a game port on a sound card), or a dial-up modem. If it isn't a sound device or modem, then it could be just about anything. So check the Device Manager under Modems and see if the modem driver is installed; if you don't have a dial-up modem, then nevermind. If your sound is working, and the modem is working (or you don't have a modem), then we'll need to find out what this device is. The easiest way to do this, is to run the free program Unknown Devices. The download is "zipped" meaning you'll have to unzip it before you can run the .EXE file. When you run it, you'll get a list of all unknown devices. In this scenario it should only be the one device; right click it and select Device Details, then post this info either in a screen shot or copy-n-paste it in to a future post. You can also post an Everest report as an attachment and it may help too. A step-by-step about Everest, creating and posting the report can be found in this thread.

:) Yup, it's the sound card! Download and install your chipset drivers first. You can get this from here. Reboot the PC when the chipset install is done. Then install the Microsoft high-def audio update, KB888111. You can download it from this direct link. When you install KB888111, the New Hardware Wizard will probably open, cancel it. Then install your sound driver. You can download it from this link or from this link. It's usually a good idea to reboot the PC when the install is done.

This should do it! If you have any other issues or questions, feel free to post...

For future reference, you really should start a new thread for each new problem, regardless of whether it's the same PC or a different PC, but since I'm already here....

Download and install your chipset drivers. They can be downloaded from this direct link. Restart the PC, then download and install your video driver from this direct link. Restart the PC when the video driver install is done, and you should be OK. The downloads will be .zip files so you'll need to extract/unzip 'em first. This ability is built-in to WinXP, but you didn't say if you have XP on this other PC or not. If you need an 'unzipper', I strongly recommend TUGzip. TUGzip can extract RAR files, ZIP files, 7zip files, many EXE files, and just about any archive or self-extracting archive you're likely to encounter. When installing TUGzip just click 'Next' all the way through. At the end of the install, there will be a little check-box for "Launch TUGzip"; go ahead and launch it; click "Next" all the way through again until you see a "Finish" button; there will be a column on the left side with a bunch of different archive formats; click the "Select All" button; click "Finish". A window will open that looks like an Explorer-type window, close it. Right click the file you downloaded (the file you want to extract) and click the 2nd upward pointing green arrow, it will say something like "Extract to: .\filename" and the file will extract to a folder of the same name.

    That should do the job....
