Help with a xp reinstall issue

Hey everyone,
I have totally messed up xp pro on the drive which it currently resides. I have screwed up the registry trying to fix a sound issue that I was never able to solve. So now I need to do a fresh install of xp. There is about 60gb of data on the drive with the current OS the I need to keep. I realize system restore is an option, but every time I have done that in the past I eventually begin to see more and more errors and end up doing a clean install again anyway. I don't have the space to backup(60gb) so I am trying to figure out a way to do a fresh install on a newly formatted 10kRPM drive without causing a boot conflict having the same OS running on 2 different drives. How can I go about this?

Any insight will be appreciated.

 

Install your new drive in your machine as the "prmary master" i.e. simply swap it with your original drive. Then do a fresh install on your new drive. Next install your old drive as a "primary slave" (you will have to change the jumper on the back of the drive to make it a slave)

You should now be able to see both drives in explorer and you can copy the data from your old drive onto your new one.

i have 200gig and 80gig. i have done as Scousetechie suggested and had no problems. i now use the 80gig as a backup drive but still backup data on disc just in case.
