I am trying to upgrade my freinds Dell Laptop. It is running Windows 2000.

I am trying to uninstall an older version of Mcafee for a newer Anti-virus program....however when I go to Add/Remove Programs the "Change" and the "Remove" buttons are not highlighted.

I also cannot located any setup files or an uninstaller.exe (unwise.exe...)

I am fairly sure that I am also loggeg in as an Administrator.

    Thanks for the help!

Maybe I can help. Techie Girl2 and I had the same problem on her computer. The McAfee is embeded somewhere on the drive hardware when installed, in other words it came preinstalled with the harddrive. To make a long story short, we ended up getting a manual uninstall instruction book from McAfee via email, printed it off, as its about 10 plus pages long, and manually followed the instructions. What you will end up doing, is item by item, picking your way through the registry and deleting the entries they list. Once you get this document from the tech support people at McAfee, stock up on food and drink as you will be at it for at least 4 hours or more. (Do not eat or drink near the computer   )I do not have the link or the documents any longer, otherwise I would send them to you. I will ask Techie Girl if she still has any info for you and ask her to get back to you here if she does, but her version may not be the same as yours. Your best bet at this point is to email McAfee and request this document for the particular version of your program.
    Best of luck :) :) :)
