My great uncle is running Window XP, and I am having trouble with the antivirus programs. He bought Norton, and when I try to do a Full Scan with it, the computer reboots itself. It will do a pre-scan fine, but will not run a scan after it is installed. I have done a System recovery, run the scan in the "safe mode', and loaded Panda off the net and run that with the same results. I tried to do the on line scan by Trend Micro, but the computer rebooted on that on two. I was able to do an on line scan off of Freedom.net, but it said there was no virus.
    Any body have any suggestions?

go to mcAfee and download their free version of s-t-i-n-g-e-r, you have to run it in safe mode, but it should find the virus that is causing your problems.

There many different causes for computer reboots, a virus scan is a very intensive procedure. There could be a problem with the hard drive, PSU, CPU, motherboard, and even software. Right-click on My Computer, select Properties, click-on the Adanced tab, click-on the Settings button under Startup and Recovery, UNCHECK Automatically restart under System failure, click OK, click Apply, Click OK, RESTART the computer. Now the next time your system crashes it will generate an error message. Post that error message.
