anybody got any solutions? i know theres suppose to be problems switchin from nvidia to ati, but i thought i did everything i was suppose to do and still nothin. i tried downloadin the drivers from their website but it doesn't seem to be working or somthin. it would download like half way and just stop. it really startin to tick me off that i cant use my new video card. i was thinkin when i got home from teh store that i could hurry and install it and finally see what the games are really made of and now i just got a headache. and for some reason, when i go into bios, the video memory thingy is set to pci? but the original card is agp? and the one im switchin to is agp? i tried switchin it over to agp and it works with old card just like it did before but the new card still wont work? if anybody has any suggestions please let me know, i realy want to play my games again today. thanks.

You gotta make sure it's in the slot.
Dont be afraid, just push it in there and try again.

umm... it's in the slot, i made sure of that the first time i put it in. im thinkin it has somethin to do with the drivers or software or somthin like that. hopefully not a defective card  . but a computer would'nt start up without a video card would it, mine boots up with new card but doesn't show anything?

My suggestion, just install the drivers from the net. It might be your software /shrug. Go to www.ati.com and get the latest and install them from there. that might work.

If you have a card built in the motherboard...the comp WOULD start up.

ok, guys. really startin to get ticked off at this. still doin the same crap as before. ANY help in resolving this issue would be MUCH appreciated. if someone would give me the steps in disabling all the drivers and software from the old nvidia card and installing all the new drivers and software for the new please tell me. i may have left somethin out that is so simple but just cant think of it. i already tried in add/remove programs and in device manager to remove drivers, and had the new ones installed but nothing is happening. could it be the motherboard that it is not compatible with or the chipset or somethin??? it's really starting to make me mad that i spent 140 bucks on a video card and cant even use it. i dont really want to but im almost to the point of goin back to best buy and replacing it with another nvidia card. but i really realy want to keep this card so please help. thnx in advance. chris

Even static can damage it or it might just be a bad card. Can you test it in a different P.C. just to rule that out?

your computer shouldn't boot without a video card. you would get post code beeps. if your not getting any video at boot, the monitor isn't getting a signal. thats not a driver issue. what motherboard do you have?

no i dont have another computer to test it out. and i do realize that static can damage it, so i took extreme caution not to get any static onto it.

here is a ling to hp's website with the computer and specs of what i got. HP Pavilion 734n
the picture they have on bottom doesn't look like the one i have for some reason, the second pic of the back plate doesn't look anything like what i have. but the first pic with pci and agp slots looks the same(cept for the backplate).
i may go to best buy tomorrow and exchange it or get my money back and get an nvidia card :( , which i kinda dont want to do. does anyone have a radeon 9600se card? here is a link of what exactly i got... Video Card
and i noticed that the hp site said agp 1.5v only, and on the best buy site, under system requirments, it said agp4x/8x OR agp 3.0, does it have anything to do with that??? thnx guys(or girls)

does your back plate have the 15-pin female "D" shaped connector? if so, your motherboard has onboard video and needs to be disabled in the bios. if not, i do not know any reason why that card wouldn't work.

no, my pc doesn't have the onboard video, but i think i found out why it dont work, the manual says that i have to have some special Virtual GART(AGP) driver, because i have a VIA chipset. you wouldn't happen to know where i could find this GART driver would ya? i'll do some searchin on google see if i can come up wit somethin, thnx, chris.

i have the asus 9600xt and this happened once when i update drivers. my computor booted but no display, had to go into the bios and it some how it changed the slot from agp to pci. the other problem i had was once all was installed and display was on i had to go to display properties/settings/smartgart and disable fastwrite hope this helps.

do a google search for Virtual GART(AGP) and there is some good reading there for you. also make sure that you have the latest via drivers

Ok, i got the latest drivers from via, the hyperion 4in1 driver thing. my bios is set to agp. i uninstalled all the drivers from my computer including nvidia and ati, and even some called s3 i think, i went into the registry to make sure they were all gone. i tried it with no drivers installed, i tried it with just the via agp drivers installed, i tried it with the via drivers plust ati's drivers that came on cd. if there is soemthin i left out tell me. what is fastwrite? all i saw under display and settings wast write combining? anyway, im gonna take it back and get exchange it for the exact same thing and see if it's just a defective card or somethin. and another weir thing is i think i dont have the right manual or somthin, it says for the radeon 9800 or radeon x800 and for radeion 9700/9500 series. im assuming it meant 9700 thru 9500 series because i have the 9600, but in the manual it says im suppose to plug it into the hard drive power connector, but theres no connectors on my card.
