    Hi,
Ever since I tried switching the setting my Mcaffee AVERT Stinger to the both options (can't remember what it was called now), it doesn't work. When I open it, it brings up a dialogue box with a brief list of commands and actions, and the only thing it will let me do is hit OK.

It has messed up my Pro Tools program with gets a "ReWireDLL.cpp (994):VERIFY failure" error, and I can't get it to work.

I tried removing AVERT, and reinstalling it, but it still does the same thing. What did I do?

    Hope you can help.

    Thanks

Im confused how you uninstalled Stinger, it is a standalone install and needs no install or uninstall. I also do not know what Pro Tools is. It is possible it found that ddl file was infected, you can try re-installing Pro Tools or see if you can find ReWireDLL.cpp on the net, though that might be harder.

Yeah, your right... I had AVERT on my desk top... so I guess I didn't really uninstall it.

Pro Tools is an audio recording program, like a digital 32 track recorder....

I also had Trojan Guard (or whatever) Gold on for a while, and it detected some trojans that I had it remove... After that was when I had the problem.

The weird thing is, I can still get into a Pro Tools session through a specific session file, but when I use the desktop shortcut, I get that error.

I tried uninstalling, reinstalling, and reparing ProTools, and it didn't help.

Also, the error comes up with a "D:" in front of it. Does that mean anything?

    Thanks,

Have you tried this under Safe Mode or a cleanboot?

I'm guessing now is the time to fess up to what virus you suspect to be on the system ;)

THats the only reason i can think of wanting to run Stinger.

Confess? I use AVERT to ensure that there ISN'T any viruses on my system. Last time it caught several that I didn't even know where there. Nothing else detected them. This was back in the spring.

I've had no problems since I followed the spyware instructions for free software. I had a couple knocks at the door with a couple trojans and thought I better find another trojan protection since my trial had run out on the other. My computer has NO symptoms of viruses, as far as I know.

However, I screwed up something in between messing with AVERT, and trying Trojan Guard Gold.

Is this a driver issue? As I said before, the program (ProTools) still works, but only if I go in through a session file instead of the shortcut.

I just tried repairing, and then completely uninstalling and reinstalling the program. Still does it. (ReWireDLL.cpp (994) : VERIFY failure in Pro Tools).

By the way, is Stinger something I should have avoided using in the first place, at all?

From what I am seeing over Google, you should try reinstalling said application that gives the error.

    My quick .02 ;)

    - - You would probably be better served in this regard to run some of the fine online scans that are available. Here are a few:

Trend Micro's Free Online Virus Scan

    RavAntivirus Online Scan

    Symantec Security Check

Stinger only detects a small, predetermined list of popular baddies. The above will do that, and more.

Re: Help with AVERT Stinger (and Trojan Guarder Gold)...

Well, I uninstalled all the digidesign software, making sure all leftover stuff was taken off as well. Then I restared and reinstalled everything. Then I restarted. Then I tried to start up Pro Tools. And I get the same message about ReWireDll.cpp.

I looked it up on google, and other people are using other audio recording programs. I didn't see anything for Pro Tools.

I'm pretty sure when I used Trojan Guarder Gold, and it detected the Windows Update Trojan, and I deleted it, it messed up something.

I even tried to go back in and re do windows update, but it says my system is up to date.

Anyone have any suggestions? I'd be grateful and give you a link for free music by me if you can help me.... That's all I have to offer....

    Thanks,

    -Brant
