Help with Cd Rom!

Well 1st of all i want thank you guys for such a nice support forum , since i had problems in the past and explore many topics and found the solution.

well i upgraded to vista from xp on my desktop , its an optiplex 270 Dell.

Somehow the cd rom cant be recognized by vista. Vista whont boot if the cd rom is connected. so i had to disconnect it to boot the OS.

i have a firmware update for it but i cant cause when i connect it vista whont start. so i wonder if theres a way i can make vista start with the cd rom connected so i can update the firmware. or any ideas.

 

First off, try this. Unplug your CDROM drive and go into setup (F2 at Dell Logo screen).
Change the boot up sequence to have your HDD first and floppy or CDROM second. Save and Exit and try to boot again with CDROM drive plugged in. Let us know if this dosent work.

 

ok i checked the boot sequence , and by the default this is the current setting.

1. Hard drive
2.Cd Room ( Not Installed) cause its not pluged in
3. Diskette Drive i guess that floopy
4. Integrated Nic card ( disabled ) but its working fine.

the cd room is even disabled cause i disabled it to try and start vista but no luck... any suggestions?

 

Did you change any jumpers on the CDROM or are the exactly the same as when you had XP installed?

Hi,

With the Hard Drive set up as first boot it will always boot if the drive is good. You should set up with Floppy first, then CD and then Hard drive. That way the one you insert a disk into will boot and the hard drive will if you don't put a Floppy or CD in.
