I am currently using a D-Link wireless router which is 54mbps the same as my wireless adapter in my pc. I have Virgin Media 2 meg broadband which is being upgraded to 10meg at the end of the month. I have 2 pcs in my house one is plugged straight into the router and one 2 rooms away which is the wireless one.

I am a little confused about router speeds and broadband speeds so not too sure if that should be adequate as I have been told to purchase a Netgear WNR 2000 router which would kick the router from 54mbps to 270mbps. Would this be a lot better or does it not make that much difference?

I am in the process of building a new rig with a friend which I will look to play games online which i dont currently do on this pc.

Please can anyone help with some advice?

    thanks in advance

It depends on if your network card will support 802.11n or not. If your network card only supports G, itll still work with that router but you wont see the speed increase.

so if I get a 300mbps router and a card that is the same range as that it should radically improve my speed?

Yes, if the card supports wireless N(802.11n). Thats what youll have to look for.
    So something like this.

You'll notice Zonet ZEW1642 IEEE 802.11b/g, IEEE 802.11n Draft 2.0 in the description. Im not familiar with the quality of this brand though.
Maybe someone who has used N cards can step in with advice on brand.
