help with data recovery!!

    Dear folks,
    I just used "pci_filerecovery.exe" and "data recovery.exe" to recover some data from a jumpdrive, it finds and recovers the lost files but most of them comes back in total jibberish "ûÇ:Œ DtÑìÏ™q)_‘¹ üšú:øù`pRœtrÓüÿ ó<Ú”1™³nñ‚»õ±úI Á" for example
    It's mostly .xls files
    How do I fix/translate this?? and why does only some files go nuts?
