Help with diagnosys

Hello there

I'm struggeling to find a way to determine a problem of slow performance on one of my home computers.

I've done all the virus checks, spyware removal and deffraging, and in didn't fix it. I've googled every process that is active and none of them showed up up as anything suspicious.

I've bought more ram, and have observed process and RAM activity with proccesExplorer, only to find out that the computer works slowly even when the proccesor is at 10% and Ram is half full.

I've also claened the insides of it with pressured air.

The general slowness is in form of delays in opening folders and apps. For example, it takes 10 seconds to open Chrome, once it's loaded, it works ok.
Then, it takes 5 seconds for a folder to be opened. Larger programs (like oppen office) take longer to open.

I'm starting to suspect that the problem might bi in the hard disk, but am not sure how to test that.
Should i do some sort of a complete system crash test to diagnose the most critical hardware component?
Could you recommend app/apps for that? Is there s way to do it from a live cd, so that the problem can be reduced to hardware?

HI

First off what is your Windows version and Service Pack?

Do you have any yellow ! marks in Device Manager and if so what?

Is this PC a OEM build as in Dell, HP, ACER etc? if so what make and model, if a Hone build PC then what is the motherboard make and model? if you don't know then follow the below as written.

Download the free, Speccy HERE then run Speccy and click File > Save as Text File, then attach the log as per instructions below (note: as Speccy also now lists more data it likely will have your Windows licence serial key also in the log, so look for Operating System and under that Serial Number and delete the code and Save the log)

Then attach your log to your next post as per these instructions HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post

Boot into safe mode (F8 at boot) and choose safe mode with networking and see if the PC works as it should, if it does let us know?

Could you attach a list of your startups as per the guide below, this may hold some clues as one thought is you maybe running multiple malware scanning apps that will conflict and slow a PC down.

Could you post a list of your startups, and this can be done from CCleaner and its Tools > Startup menu and then click the Save to Text File button in the bottom right corner and then attach as per HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post
