Help with disconnection?

Alright, I think I've officially tried everything, so if anyone can help me on here, it would be MUCH appreciated. Here's the issue.
Since about a week ago I noticed my internet would crash at random intervals. Not my computer, my internet (as in the little red x appears where my connection status should be and says "no connections are found"). Obviously, at first I thought this was a router issue, so I reset the router and went back to my laptop (it's a Sony VPCEE22FX if this helps) to see if any progress was made. None was. Not only this, but my mom who is using the same router as I am, and is even further away from the router has a perfect connection and is able to use the internet freely. I found out I was able to regain internet connection upon restarting my computer, but the connection only lasts 30 minutes or so (the amount of time it stays solid is really random. Sometimes it only gives me 5 minutes, sometimes it will go for two hours) before the dreaded red x comes back telling me I have no connections available.
Last week I was at my boyfriend's house using his router and wifi on my laptop. We played an internet game together for a bit, then the same thing happened. My internet connection showed the red x again, and said no connections were available. But his internet showed and displayed perfect connection.
Therefore, I have come to deduce it is NOT the router causing this issue. I then thought that perhaps the game could be interfering with my wireless connection somehow (by the way, the game is called league of legends, and the game causing internet to crash is not unheard of, although my particular case seems to be). So I run the game through my firewall and antivirus to make sure it's not being blocked by those programs, and run the game as an administrator. It crashes again. To test this theory, I disabled the game completely (in "services") and made sure I ended the lolclient.exe in my processes with task manager (so there's no way the game is running AT ALL). I surf the web normally, on youtube, hotmail, and google only. My internet crashes AGAIN. I can only now think that the problem must lie with my computer.
I updated the drivers yesterday, and it's still doing it. So it wouldn't be a driver issue.
I called both my computer manufacturer support (Sony) and he said his guess was as good as mine, and it would cost $100 to make any progress. I then called my OS support (windows). They pretty much said the same thing, and they would reinstall windows for $100 as well. (Like I don't know how to reinstall windows, and that would help my problem whatsoever.)

So I come to internet forums. Does anyone have any idea of what I can do here? I am officially lost.

Many thanks to any attempts to fix this.

The red "X" you are receiving is indicating that you have lost the connection between your computer and the router. Can you connect your computer to the router with a wire to see if the same problem occurs? If the connection works ok when you are wired then we can turn out attention to the wireless adapter.
