I have a friend that has lost a few documents and i was not able to help her out, so i am reaching out to the major geek community for some help.

So, she had a bunch of documents in her "My documents" folder, and noticed that a few of them dissappeared and the only ones that were left were like 8 that were in alphabetical order.

She was able to do a search using the 'search hidden files' option, and she came across them in the 'Recent' folder and was able to open them. I am under the impression that the recent folder only has shortcuts, but she was making it sound like they were actually in there, either way she was able to open them up.

Then all of a sudden she said she went to the 'Recent' folder and noticed they were shortcuts and they would not open up any of the files.

I had her go through and make sure that her folder options were all 'Restored to Defaults' and 'Show Hidden Files' but to no avail...

    Any ideas or thoughts?

    A couple of suggestions.

I assume that you have checked the Recycle Bin for any document that may have been deleted by accident.

If she knows the name, or part of the name, of any of her missing documents, have you tried a search for the file name, or part of the filename.

These are obvious steps and you have probably already tried them both, but just in case.;) Bazza

There was nothing in the recycle bin, and she tried the search feature. That is how she originally found them in the "Recent" Folder...

Sorry about that. Other Geeks, please step in with suggestions.

There are recovery programs that may work but you need to have pre-installed them before your troubles, or install them on a second drive or partition, or they will probably overwrite some of your documents.

Google link to 1.7 million links on recovering deleted files.

    Hope you find something there.
