    Greetings all:wave
My name on this board says it all so I hope you can help me sort out this mess of a laptop that I've created.

First off, it's a Dell Inspiron E1505 that originally came loaded with windows vista. Due to a software program that is necessary to my business that is yet to be compatible with Vista, I downgraded to Windows XP and ran that on the computer instead:banghead

I have another computer that runs fine and is a wireless desktop so I know my internet connection and router are fine. That is a Netgear Range Max router.

Back to laptop, I now have no networks listed and don't have a clue as to how I can once again access my wireless router. I tried using the CD that came with the router and hooking straight into the internet with a ethernet cord but it still wouldn't recognize that I was on the internet. HELP!!!!
    I'm at my wits end!
Thanks in advance for your help and remember that my user name says it all so try to make it simple...LOL

    Hello Not Computer Saavy :)

Question, if you bring up your Network Connections, under your Control Panel in your start menu, and list off the things there. Does it say, "Local Area Connection" and if it does, when your wired connection is plugged in, does it say below that "Limited or No Connectivity?" or "Connected?"

    Thanks.

Btw, if you don't have a local Area Connection, please list what is there, if nothing we'll go from there.

It says the same thing when I hook right into the internet as it does when I'm not.......

    Incoming Connections
    No clients connected

    LAN or High-Speed Internet
    1394 Connection
    Connected, Firewalled
    1394 Net Adapter

Sounds like your drivers may not be configured for your Network Adapter.

This what I'll get you to do.

    Start
    Right Click My Computer
    Left Click Properties
    Click onto Hardware Tab
    Then Device Manager.

From there, check to see if you have any Yellow Question Marks, or Exclamation marks.

If so, list them, and let me know.
    Thanks,

    Hello,

Yeah. It seems the drivers arn't installed properly.

    Please install these in order:

    http://support.dell.com/support/dow...SPIRONI6400/E1505&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=

    Chipset
At Boot please see if you can find out what type of Video Card is installed on your system, from there download those drivers and install them.
Then Network, download the Broadcom Driver, and for your Wifi, download your appropriate Wifi adapter (Its either Intel or Dell)
    Then download the rest.

    Hope it helps

    Not Really,

    Here's the fun part.
You may need to get your Express access code (On the bottom of your laptop) to find out exactly what you need beyond that. If you want I can find it for you if you can find that number for me. (its on a white sticker on the bottom of your laptop)

    Thanks.

Hi! Hopefully I can help... install these drivers in the order listed (gleaned from ElderUsr's link above) :
    Chipset http://support.dell.com/support/dow...1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=27&fileid=149851
    Audio http://support.dell.com/support/dow...1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=27&fileid=149851
    Modem http://support.dell.com/support/dow...1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=20&fileid=150083
    Ethernet (wired internet connection) http://support.dell.com/support/dow...-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=5&fileid=198980
Wifi (wireless internet connection) http://support.dell.com/support/dow...-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=5&fileid=233125 (if this one doesn't work, try the next one)
    Wifi #2 http://support.dell.com/support/dow...-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=5&fileid=202138
Video - there are 3 different possible video drivers, and I won't post them all and ask you to try one, then another, and possibly a third; the three possible video chips are Intel, nVidia, and ATI. Without the Service Tag number (typically 6-9 mixed numbers and letters) or an Everest hardware report (more info at this link), it's impossible to tell which video driver is needed....

So... use the above the drivers (always install the chipset drivers FIRST), and let us know if you have any troubles locating/installing the correct video driver (or any other driver) and we'll be happy to advise! ;)

Thank you both so much! I did as you said and finally have my laptop up and running once again. I'm grateful to this site and the true knowledge of those that are on it. Thanks once again for both of your kind help!
