    Hello all,

I was working on a new windows vista laptop today (the free 7 upgrade is in the mail). Basicly just getting it up and running and moving the outlook express email and address book over from on old xp desktop to the new laptop. I have a couple of questions.
When I imported the emails in to windows live mail they all landed in the import folder but the customer wants to have them in his inbox, the same as the new incoming mail. How do I get them moved to the inbox or any specific folder for that matter? Also he had a mail icon on his internet explorer browser so he could view his mail from his home page. How do I get that set on the vista machine? Thanks in advance!

Messages can be dragged and dropped between folders, and if you right click somewhere in the command bar you can customise it, including adding Read Mail.

You're referring to webmail access of email. With the webmail logon page displayed in Internet Explorer, drag the icon just to the left of http/https in the web address box to the Favorites Bar.

Don't think so. You can add a Read Mail icon to the commands bar and that will open your default email client.

When I look at the available commands for customizing, I see Send Link by E-mail and Send Page by E-mail, but not Read Mail. Can you tell us exactly where to find it?

I'm referring to IE 8, with Windows 7 RC.

I'm also wondering why you disagree with my statement about webmail. In the OP, he said, "he had a mail icon on his internet explorer browser so he could view his mail from his home page." That clearly implies viewing email via web browser, not an email client.

    Here we go -

EDIT - in my case the button opens Thunderbird, but it will always open the default client as long as one has been set up.

Well, now I know why I overlooked it. I was looking in the left side of the panel for adding commands to the menu bar but Read Mail wasn't there because it was already on my menu bar. I just didn't recognize the icon because I never use it. Yes, it opens Windows Live Mail on my computer.

Actually, I believe that icon/button is there by default, isn't it? I don't recall ever adding it.

I'd still like to see confirmation from dewback on the webmail vs. email client issue.

Well he might mean webmail I agree, and one way of getting that from an IE button would be to set the webmail link as the home page. Hitting the Home button would then do it.

EDIT - yes, I think it is a default button. Probably lots of ppl don't ever realise it's there if it's on the >> link at the end of the bar.
