intitially when i started using Firefox I disabled tabbed browsing... but i don't like when i have 2 or more windows open and they all group together on my task bar... so i'd like to know how to enable tabbed browsing? I'm not all that familiar with the browser or how to utilize the tabbed browsing feature....

i don't want any of my favorites list showing up in the tabs, i just want multiple firefox windows to show up in the tabs when i open additional links... thanks

eh excuse me for being dumb but how do i install that extension? right clicking and "Save Link As" tries to save it as a "tabprefs_1.2.7.1.xpi" file... if i just click on the link it says i have to change my edit options to "Allow Websites To Install Software" (which i'm not always comfortable doing)...

essentially want i want to be able to do, is right click a link in say a forum or something, and just have it open up a new tab on my current window, instead of having to open an entirely new Firefox window...

You can either left-click and install directly, or right-click and save the .xpi file, then drag and drop it into a Firefox window (which enables you to keep a backup copy).

To do either, though, you have to enable "Allow Web Sites to Install Software". This permission only applies to sites on the browser's whitelist, unless you've added more, that's two Mozilla.org sites.

If you try to download an extension or theme from another site, you'll be asked for permission. If you allow it, it will be added to the whitelist.

In any case, you can disable that setting again after the extension is installed, you don't have to keep it enabled if it concerns you.

It only takes seconds to go to Tools > Options > Web Features and check or uncheck it. While you have it enabled, click "Allowed Sites" to view the whitelist.

If you just want to use the built-in tabbed browsing options, go to Tools > Options > Advanced (Edit > Preferences > Advanced in Mac or Linux), expand Tabbed Browsing, you can play around with the settings to get it working to your preference.

Or, if you have scroll mouse, then you can just click on the middle mouse button to open in new tab. That is how mine is setup.

Or, you can use ctrl + left click a link to open in new tab.

Aha! So that's what "middle click" refers to.

Holy Cow! I've been using Firefox since 0.8, and never knew about using the middle mouse button for that. I just tried it - works!!
    Thanks!!

Also, if you want to have a search appear in a new tab, type your query in the search bar and press Alt+Enter.

If you want to open a blank tab, click File > New Tab.

I've been using it since 0.2 back in the Phoenix days.

I've been using CTRL + T for a long time. Does the same thing!
