XP MCE Machine....on a limited user account the search feature isn't giving me all the options along the left hand side as it should do.

    It now looks like this...

    search.PNG

Is there a quick little fix for this as I'd rather not sys restore...I would rather know how to mend it....

I have tried rebooting and nothing changed...in fact after a reboot it is worse

I tried searching on the net....but I cannot find anything specific:(

    many kind thanks

nope....that just takes the search dog "toolbar" away....I think I'm going to follow Plodr's advice which Dr Moriarty kidly linked me to from another thread here at the site.

Go to start run and type each in the box, hitting OK after each entry:
    regsvr32 urlmon.dll
    regsvr32 jscript.dll
    regsvr32 wshom.ocx
then close the run box and try to search for something.

http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/fix-xp-search-companion-blank-window/ see here too (thanks Doc M)

try this first: Fixing Windows XP Search Companion User Interface

    1. Login as Administrator or equivalent.

    2. Click Start, Run. Execute the following commands:

    regsvr32 %windir%\srchasst\srchui.dll
    regsvr32 %windir%\system32\jscript.dll
You should see the message DllRegisterServer in <filename.dll> succeeded. for each DLL registered.
Logoff and login back (just in case the changes don’t take effect ..

regsvr32 urlmon.dll this one suceeded after entering into the run box, but these two didn't:

    regsvr32 jscript.dll
    regsvr32 wshom.ocx

    I received the following errors:

    jscript failed.PNG

    wshom.ocx failed.PNG

    rebooted and...nothing :(
