    Greeting fellow Geeks -

I have discovered a freeware vector-based drawing program called Inkscape. It seems capable enough for what I want to do. I completed a simple logo and tried importing it into Word. However, despite being vector based, it appears, well . . . crappy. It is all jagged and wonky.

Inkscape allows you to save in the following formats:

svg (3 types), svgz, ps, eps, pdf, emf, pov, odg, tex, DXF, gpl, and .zip. I have tried svgz, eps, and emf. I thought for sure emf would do the trick. If I converted to wmf would it work? If so, what program can I use?

I am also prompted to save with the following three variables: Make Bounding Box Around Full Page, Convert Text To Paths, Embed Fonts (Type 1 Only). Which are relevant and might one combination of the three save the file in a usable way in Word?

Inside of Inkscape itself, the graphic displays fine under all file types.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I hope I got your question right, so sorry in advance if I have not!

If that program will only save in those formats that may not easily be accepted by MS Word, then try this software http://www.majorgeeks.com/XnView__d4974.html to convert the images to say JPG or TIFF as it supports many of those formats you mentioned.

    Halo -

Thanks for the reply. I think I hinted at why I wanted the save in a specific format but I did not explain. I need to save in a format that I can scale freely without loss of image quality. I have Photoshop, but that does not do vector graphics. I can create, save, edit through Inkscape in the mentioned format and they look fine in Inkscape. But when I insert them into a Word document they look like crap.

Will the programs you mentioned allow me to open a .emf and save as a .wmf?

    Halo -

I tried it. It works great, but you are right, it will not do .wmf. It seems that .emf is better anyway. The program will come in handy later though, thanks for the suggestion.

So, it seems here is my problem reduced to it's simplest form: I am using a freeware vector program called Inkscape. When I create and save files in vector formats they display and print like crap outside of the original program. Any ideas?

    Thanks!
