help with hard drive

    i just had new hard drive installed on win 98se.work for about 3 weeks now when i turn my pc on its saying hard drive status bad press f1 to continue. had the hard drive check out and was told ok. any ideas

    Odd problem. Be sure the jumpers are set correctly and that it is identified properly in the bios. How did you have the hard drive "checked out"?

    hi took pc back to repair shop who installed it they check the hard drive clean it said its ok.but keep getting same message hard drive status bad back up and replace. when i turn pc on....

    Maybe your drive is going bad
    Have you tried connecting it as a slave on another pc?

    Run a check disc and see ....at least you may have something to show to the store people.

    make sure you have a space between chkdsk and /f/r as in


    chkdsk /f/r

    parse error 3 .....hummmmm ....would suggest you shut down ...restart go to my computer , right click the c drive and hit properties / tools / error checking and check both boxes to fix ...ok out ....it will say it will run on next start up ..so restart and tell us what happens ....it will check 5 things ..tell us all errors and actions that it does.
