have you tried this removal tool?
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...-2&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3645097&os=2100
and i'm sure you are using the correct driver(s) for vista 64-bit?
and are you using the full install of the software and drivers or just drivers only?

another thing, are you running the install with admin privileges? you may want to disable user account control temporarily until the program installs.

I’m glad someone else posted about HP printer software problems.

I had a Photosmart 2575 attached to my computer. This model has a paper feed problem which HP inadequately addressed by sending out a kit to roughen up the rollers—no kidding!! Mine would not feed at all, so I decided to replace it with a PSC 1310 I was given.

I uninstalled the five HP entries on the Photosmart in Add or Remove Programs, ran CCleaner on the first tab and then on registry and then tried to install with a HP CD for the replacement printer. The CD would not run at all! I clicked the setup.exe on it and it would not run. Tried a couple times.

So then I tried to download from the HP website. The file downloaded but when I open it and run it, it says it is extracting and the files all extract but then cannot be found. They simply do not appear. They should provide a message about when to attach the USB cable, but there is nothing. I tried both the full feature and the basic software and no luck with either. Both extract and disappear without doing anything on screen.

For someone who doesn’t like to do anything risky, I opened up the registry and looked for the HP Photosmart printer entry and deleted it. I am guessing there may be some other entries that are not as obvious and they need to be deleted too, since this did not help when I tried to download and install the basic software again.

So I am going to give that removal tool a try. Hope it works for proudtexan and me too. Thanks.

i have done the full package download and cleaned out the registry out etc several times. gone thru about 20 steps about 30 times now its being bumped up to the advance team they said. they gave me this number if i get no help.

If there is more you'd like to add, or if there is an unresolved issue, do not hesitate to call the HP Executive Customer Relations office at 800-756-0608, option 7, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Pacific Time.

Keep at it and keep calling or asking to be bumped up to the next level. Generally the lowest level tech support is not techie nor very helpful. I can't blame them because they are not adequately trained and they are on a clock to get you on and off as quick as possible. The goal is not to help but rather that you perceive help is available.

yeah i know most those low level customer service folks are like reading from a computer database they dont really know anything about puter trouble shooting. i mean they are so stupid it takes a day of emailing em back and forth to get them to understand that this problem is gonna have to be handled either thru remote connect or the advanced team or both. but course those indian techs really have a hard time understanding amything technical lmao

Drivers are usually located on the cd in "Product" folder, sometimes need to be copied to the "product" folder in the HP/Hewlett Packard Programs files folder on the hard drive after the software is installed. Drivers alone are sufficient to run the printer/hardware but HP software can be of help too, when it installs properly.........
