Help with IE 6 upgrade to 7

I have IE 6 installed and need to update to IE 7 for School assignments. I have been trying all day to update and the process goes through all the way to the end and then I get a message saying that the installation did not finish. Restart computer to undo and changes made to system. Then click on IE troubleshoot on desktop for tips on what to do...I have tried that and nothing seems to work.....Do you know what the problem could be and how I might fix it.....

 

What operating system do you have?

 

umm perhaps ( providing your running winows) have you tried going into Control Pannel > Add or Remove Programs > Add Windows Components then clicked internet explorer then that could possibly fix it then update it?

or are you saying IE 6 works and u just cant update ?
