Hey guys wondering if you can help.Iam using XP sp2. I tried printing a document today but recieved a message saying that the printer drivers could not be found. So I uninstalled the program then attempted to reinstall the drivers and utilities from the disc that came with the printer(DELL Personal All-In-One Printer A940).Upon doing so I recieved a message c:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications.

When I go through ControlPanel, printers and faxes, then click on add printer. I recieve a operation could not be completed. The printer spooler service is not running.

When I use the found new hardware wizard it says. There was a problem installing this hardware DELL A940. An error occured during the installation of the device. The RPC server is unavailable.

If anybody could help I would highly appreciate it.

to turn on the printer spooler goto start>control panel>admin tools>computer management>services & apps ... highlight services ... scroll down to "print spooler" right click and tick start ... if you are unable to do that right click>properties, in the scroll down menu next to where it says "startup type" select automatic ... also make sure the Remote Procudure Call(RPC) services are running as well

(also note that this is a message board sometimes it takes a day or two for people to get back to you)

Thanks for the responce. I checked to see if the RPC was started and on automatic and it was but there was a RPC Locater directly under RPC that was not started. The print spooler was on automatic but would not start this is what the message said. Could not start the print service on local computer. ERROR: The dependancy service or group failed to start. Also, I started the RPC locator and then tried to start the print spooler but recieved the same error mesage. Thanks for the help so far any other suggestions from you or any one else?

OK I think I figured it out.The print spool is dependant on the RPC and LexBce server which was disabled. I started LexBce but put it on manual should I leave it on manual or set it to automatic? Also, by starting LexBce I was able to start the print spool. Once again thanks.

hmm .. never heard of LexBce ... I would do some research on what that is (i can print just fine without it) ... but manual just means that either you have to turn the service on yourself or a program has to tell services to turn it on ... setting it to auto means it turns on when you boot the computer ... your choice really

lexbce server is part of Lexmark MarkVision software that is used to configure the internal network card that comes with a Lexmark printer or in this case a Dell printer, same $#!*. There have been problems with this not being enabled during install or being disabled some how, but you solved the problem just as others have listed in other forums.
    Congrats!
    golf clap everyone!
    LOL :)

*Takes a bow * But wait I was searching and you can fix LexBce through regedit so it's not on your system or so that the spooler is not dependant at all except for RPC. I guess some people have a hard time installing or running a printer because the LexBce is running.

I don't have a Lexmark printer that is why I don't have the service ... for more info on services you can go here: www.blackviper.com
