Hello. I am attempting to share an internet connection between two XP desktops through an ethernet crossover. I have the broadband line from the router going into the LAN socket on the mobo of one computer, a PCI network card installed on the same, with a crossover running from that PCI card to the LAN socket on the mobo of the other computer. Is this a viable configuration, or do I need a PCI network card on the other computer as well?

I ask becasue my current setup allows file/printer sharing unhindered, but no internet connection on the second computer. I have disabled windows firewall on the crossover connection on both ends, and still nothing. I also have COMODO suite w/ firewall installed and active on both.

On the pc connected to internet, go to network connections in control panel, right click on your internet connection and click on properties, click the advanced tab and where it says internet connection sharing tick the box next to "Allow other network users to connect through this computers internet connection".

I've already done that, actually, and to no avail. Sorry for not mentioning it.

I'm assuming the actual internet connection is the "1394 Connection", not the "Local Area Connection", since "1394" lists the "Local Area Connection 3" (that appeared when I installed the PCI network card) in a drop-down menu, whereas "Local Area Connection" has no such choice.

    Thanks for responding.:wave

alittle bit more help for you...go to network connections in the control panel...just kidding...

on the first computer go your network connection folder...you should have 2 local area connections... figure out which one is the one that connects directly to the modem...that one should have internet connection sharing turned on...forget about the 1394 connection...it is for firewire connections...the other connection is the one that will connect directly to your other computer...on the first computer go to start...run...enter CMD into the feild and it will open a command line...enter ipconfig /all this will tell you which is what and what is which...it should give you addresses for both connections...now go to the other computer and see if you are connected...go to start...run...enter cmd and then enter ipconfig /all and it should give you the address of that computer...and you should be good to go...
